I've been going here since I came back all busted up from the war 15 years ago. They've always taken good care of me, I've never had a bad experience. The pharmacy has gotten better over the years it used to be a little inefficient but it's fine now. Love the cafe. Straight shooters here doing what they can to keep me alive and kicking for as long as possible haha.

Ok Portland VA you win, we give up. My wife and I flew in for eye appointments today, and we were called at the last second that our appointments were cancelled. Tried to reschedule and this whole area is booked out for months. Sent to “community care” line to see about getting an appointment, and 3 hours, and 6 runarounds later, still no referral or appointment. We give up. You guys are as bad as the Phoenix VA system before Trump. Please do better.

I am on my second rodeo with the VA. I took my dad there for years and the docs did a great job taking care of him. He was a diabetic and had multiple toe amputation, they saved him countless times when we were sure he was going to lose half his leg! They did an amazing job on vascular bi-pass 3 times on his legs. The nurses in 2005 were awful, but improved greatly by 2007. My dad passed in 2008. I've recently began caring for a Vietnam Veteran who has been like a dad to me since my dad passed away. He has lots of appointments at the VA and so far the docs have been great. The sad part is the turn-over. He has Alzheimer's and Dementia and it is hard on him when he gets assigned a new doc. It confuses him. The PA's are a mix of good and bad, but you get that in healthcare no matter where yo

It is very busy, but staff is nice. The pharmacy takes forever! I try to go to the Vancouver one just because it’s closer to home and much faster. It is a little difficult to find parking, so I shuttle from Vancouver VA. My doctors here are fantastic though and I am so grateful to qualify for VA services.

I've been to this hospital for several appointments non-emergency and also emergency room visits. The staff here at this hospital is phenomenal. Very knowledgeable and very patient. Again I'll repeat very patient, if you knew me you would understand. And they've gotten me better results than what was suggested during the last surgery I had. So thank you very much to the VA staff of Portland and also the VA staff on the phone service. Y'all are top notch for sure thank you

Portland VA is top notch in every depth. The staff is not only knowledgeable but well rehearsed and very efficient, one of the best responses for Code Blue that I have personally experienced. Staff actually cared for the patients they took care of. Would recommend this Facility to anyone. Thanks for all they do. Those who whine about the VA should try the private sector, careful what you ask for.

What to expect at a sleep study appointment
For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.
Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Portland VA Sleep Center
What does Portland VA Sleep Center do?
Portland VA Sleep Center is a sleep medicine clinic in Portland, OR that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.
Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Portland VA Sleep Center?
Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Portland VA Sleep Center directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.
How much does a sleep study cost at Portland VA Sleep Center?
Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.
Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?
Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.
How long does it take to get sleep study results?
Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.
Can I do the sleep study at home?
Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.
What should I bring to my appointment at Portland VA Sleep Center?
Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
