I SHOULD HAVE READ RECENT REVIEWS. The neurologist was very dismissive, never introduced himself and impatient. He should be called a RN at most. The entire appointment he was in and out of his office, speaking to the receptionist and texting another patient that the receptionist couldn’t even locate. He was ordering labs that were already done by the ER. He did not read up on any of the testing that was done prior to my visit or any medical history before our appointment. He was worried about booking an appointment for another patient that he was texting throughout our session. He told me my symptoms are mental and there is nothing he could do. I advised the receptionist that I will not be returning and they can take me off of their schedule. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY AT THIS RAN D

I was recently sent to this office by an office in Rock Hill. My former neurologist was retiring so I needed to get in for a reevaluation of my epilepsy. The doctor was great based on my first impression but the receptionist was by far the most condescending and unwelcoming receptionist I've ever come across. Upon my arrival she never acknowledged me by asking who I was or said hello. I sat down because she was talking with other patients, waiting for my turn. She was doing something and said come here so I went to the desk and she said "I don't need you right now" twice before I realized she was actually talking to a lady around the corner that I didn't see. Okay, it might just be me, so I sat back down. She looks at me and assumes my name and hands me the paper work I need to fill out

DO NOT RECOMMEND. They honestly need to shut this office down if I would’ve read the reviews in advance, I wouldn’t have even came here. I needed to see a neurologist as soon as possible, after a car accident. I couldn’t wait for my lawyer to find one so I took the referral from my primary care. Needless to say, I should’ve waited for my lawyer, and I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau or corporate office, giving the sly remarks said by the neurologist to me. Neurological symptoms are nothing to play with. Please find you a facility that can actually provide assistance DO NOT GO HERE !!

Dr. Ameri is wonderful and kind. He is very thorough and caring. Betty Mays is also great to work with. They make an excellent team. I feel I’m the best hands available. Their support staff are great, too! Many thanks-K. Kennedy

The service received was great however the communication wasn’t so much. After trying to schedule my appointment for almost two weeks I finally got a call back. The only reason I got in when I did was because of a cancelation. It should have been some type of conversation on what to expect when receiving a service prior to your appointment. It wasn’t until I was in the back office, I was informed I wasn’t properly prepared for my service. I had just gotten my hair done two days prier to the appointment and let’s just say that was a waste of $80 due to the process/ procedure I had to get. I just think communicating is key.

What to expect at a sleep study appointment

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Mecklenburg Neurology

What does Mecklenburg Neurology do?

Mecklenburg Neurology is a sleep medicine clinic in Charlotte, NC that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Mecklenburg Neurology?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Mecklenburg Neurology directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at Mecklenburg Neurology?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at Mecklenburg Neurology?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
