Been waiting since November 18th,2025 for Gretchen to reach out to me.. I understand if they’re booked but I have not gotten anyone to answer the phone at all, Not even once!!. Twice every week I call faithfully(sometimes leaving voicemails but honestly got tired of leaving them) bc the pain is unbearable. I never leave reviews and I hate that it’s a bad one but hopefully if my experience with the office goes better I can update the review. Why have I heard everyone has this same issue with this one office ?

My 1st time at the Laurinburg office and never again. The lady at front was a sweetheart but that Dr. Amiri! Wooo I thank God for the change in me because baby he almost got all my mouth in a worst way. He is extremely rude, mean, and don't listen at all. He didn't introduce himself. I asked him for his name he said you will get a card when you go back up front all mean. Everytime I would try to talk he would cut me off. He would say listen to me. Dude you are not God! He needs to retire or something. Get anger management or something. People are not going to let you talk them all kind of ways. Respect others! Be kind sir!

When the nurse practitioner left, I was transitioned over to Dr. Amiri. First time I saw him l, I thought I was getting a script renewal and but he wanted me to get bloodwork. Ended up with almost a $2,000 bill that I just finally paid off. Tested me for every single condition including Lyme Disease. Each appointment I saw him he chastised me for being overweight. Final time I saw him, I had lost significant weight. In contrast to my PCP, who was happy and encouraged me to lose the last 20lbs, Dr. Amiri told me I hadn’t and then picks up a tape recorder and says “Patient claims he has lost…” The staff is great but I wish I had never gone here. I’ve never seen a doctor with reviews like a bad restaurant. Avoid him like the plague.

I literally have to call the Charlotte location in order to get refills on my prescriptions and get appointments my last two appointments have been via virtual appointment. I am looking for a new neurologist if anyone has and recommendations that would be awesome.

What to expect at a sleep study appointment

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Mecklenburg Neurology

What does Mecklenburg Neurology do?

Mecklenburg Neurology is a sleep medicine clinic in Laurinburg, NC that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Mecklenburg Neurology?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Mecklenburg Neurology directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at Mecklenburg Neurology?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at Mecklenburg Neurology?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
