I have been trying to schedule a Sleep Study for a little over a week and the staff here keep losing/changing their story regarding my referral and insurance. I had to correct and repeat myself multiple times during my third attempt to get the device shipped to me, rather than work around their awful availability (only 3 days a week for a 4 hour window). It is supposedly "mandatory" that I come in to be read an instruction pamphlet from a box, but they also can mail it to me and I can read it myself at home? How does that make any sense? With regards to my insurance I was told by one staff that they could not run my insurance until I picked up the device, and then told by another that they have my insurance already and its been cleared, and they just need an image on file. They had my cu

I did a at home study ordered by my primary. I was told I have sleep apnea. The supply company contacted me and given me information. But McLaren hasn't given me ANY information. I have questions and wanted to talk to a sleep doctor or specialist about them and was told there is nobody to talk to, I have to ask my primary. I am disappointed because I really wanted to talk to a sleep doctor or specialist about my sleep apnea who should know more then a person's primary.

Very nice location for a sleep study, only complaint I had was, there were no instructions or expectations leading up to the visit. They asked on the phone but I didn’t know what to ask. I assumed I would get something in the mail or an email, nope. Maybe it’s common sense but make sure you take a bag with clean pajamas, clean clothes, pretty much anything you need you use for your routine to goto bed. The beds were comfortable, pillows and blankets were nice but if you need your own to fall asleep, bring them. It takes them about 30-45 minutes to hook up all the wires and probes. Side note, the location is in the nice part of flint.

I recently did an at-home sleep study with this center. I overslept(sleep deprived) and missed my appointment to pickup the equipment by 30 minutes. I don't remember her name but the person at the counter graciously allowed me to pick up my equipment as a walk-in, even though it was busy that morning. The equipment worked just as it was explained and was not difficult to set up, and the app used on my phone was simple as well. In the morning I completed the instructions on the app and disposed of the equipment. I received the the study results within a few days. Overall I was very pleased with my experience. This was my first sleep study.

I had a good experience at this location. I have recently gone through two other sleep studies in the past 2 months at a separate location and without comparison I can state that the staff was polite and accommodating. Anne the scheduling assistant, represents the clinic with a cheerful and happy demeanor, and was very accommodating with my needs through my other physicians. My sleep tech Stephanie was top notch and very respectful and kind and made my experience the best that it could be. Overall, the staff was great to work with. I can see that some people may find the rooms a little chilly, however, I was offered a blanket, and you can bring your own blanket if you desire. That being said, I typically enjoy a cooler atmosphere while I sleep so to each their own. I did not give five star

What to expect at a sleep study appointment

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about McLaren Sleep Diagnostic Center

What does McLaren Sleep Diagnostic Center do?

McLaren Sleep Diagnostic Center is a sleep medicine clinic in Flint, MI that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at McLaren Sleep Diagnostic Center?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact McLaren Sleep Diagnostic Center directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at McLaren Sleep Diagnostic Center?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at McLaren Sleep Diagnostic Center?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
