Following a clinical sleep study in 2017, I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea. My wife complained for years about my snoring, and how I stopped breathing several times a night. It was a great disruption for her ability to sleep. I tried the Sleep Apnea machine, changing out several masks but nothing worked. I never felt more rested, or had more energy as others had reported after using their machine. When my wife talked about me sleeping in another room, I knew it was serious. After doing some research I contacted the Michigan Dental Sleep Center in September 2025 for a consultation regarding a Dental Appliance. After working with Dr. Witkow, and his supportive staff I can report my wife is no longer asking me to sleep in another room😊!! The Clio Clinic is little more than an hour from my h

Dr. Witkow and his team are phenomenal. He is very thorough, explained my sleep study results and the solutions he offered in detail. My wife was waking me up several times each night because I was snoring and it was getting to a point of exhaustion for both of us. I was diagnosed with mild/moderate sleep apnea. My sleep doctor advised I could use a CPAP or go see Dr. Witkow and try a mandibular advancement device (MAD). I had never heard of the device but didn’t want to be hooked up to a CPAP the rest of my life. I decided to try the MAD and couldn’t be happier. My wife never wakes me up anymore and I truly feel that I get better sleep. I couldn’t be happier with my experience with the Michigan Dental Sleep Center. Thank you!!

My experience with Michigan Dental Sleep was great! The office was very clean and the staff was very friendly. I was fitted with a top and bottom mouth guard that really helped me sleep better. I stopped breathing 7 times an hour. Using my mouth guards dropped me down to 1.8 times an hour. So there was also less tossing and turning which helps my husband sleep better too. I would recommend anyone to come here to see what they can do for you.

Great customer service, effective advice and workmanship. My wife chose to try an oral appliance instead of the CPAP. What a game changer. Her sleep has improved greatly. The unexpected benefit is my sleep has improved also since there is less tossing and turning. Over all great experience!!

Dr. Witkow and his staff are simply amazing. I struggled with CPAP and cannot believe what a difference this oral appliance has made. It fits perfectly. He is so good at explaining everything. He is an amazing practitioner and I am so glad I was referred to him. His support staff was phenomenal as well. I would highly recommend anyone with a sleep disorder to see him. You won’t be sorry.

What to expect at a sleep study appointment
For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.
Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Michigan Dental Sleep Center
What does Michigan Dental Sleep Center do?
Michigan Dental Sleep Center is a sleep medicine clinic in Clio, MI that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.
Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Michigan Dental Sleep Center?
Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Michigan Dental Sleep Center directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.
How much does a sleep study cost at Michigan Dental Sleep Center?
Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.
Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?
Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.
How long does it take to get sleep study results?
Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.
Can I do the sleep study at home?
Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.
What should I bring to my appointment at Michigan Dental Sleep Center?
Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
