Kristy in the front office is AWESOME! I had a problem that many phone calls didn't resolve. I went to the and she helped me. Her kind, compassionate manner prevented me from being a 'Karen'. They are lucky to have her. Dr.Patel was wonderful. He put me at ease, explained everything to me in terms that I understood. He not only explained my test results but he showed me my scans. No one has ever showed me my scans. Great doctor!

I had an excellent experience with Dr. Patel and the entire team at Upper Chesapeake Pulmonary Care. From Kristi at the front desk, to Becca, the respiratory therapist, and Dr. Patel, everyone was kind, professional, and attentive. Dr. Patel quickly assessed my condition, provided a clear diagnosis, and gave me the answers I needed to move forward with reassurance. I truly appreciate the exceptional care, compassion, and professionalism shown by the entire staff. Thank you all!

The following is an excerpt from a message that I sent to senior management at UM Upper Chesapeake Health: The intake process went well. In fact, I was impressed by the attention to detail provided by the office staff. Similarly, my initial consultation with a nurse practitioner was also handled in a very professional manner. The nurse practitioner thought that an in-house Sleep study would be the best course of action. Sadly, it was at this point that any sign of attention to detail and professionalism dissipated. The nurse practitioner had mentioned that it could take up to two weeks for my insurance company to authorize the Sleep study. She also suggested that I contact them if I had not received a response at that point. Following the passage of two weeks I began to contact th

I been trying to get in contact with someone here for 3 weeks about my results. No one calls back. No one reaches out. I really don’t think they care enough. Also they lack communication amongst each other. My day of sleep apnea test the lady in office said I can’t bring anyone but I specifically spoke to 2 other people in the office that said I could. They are unprofessional and a hot mess.

I wish I had looked at the reviews before I scheduled with this horrible place. The staff is very inefficient and unprofessional. Their email signature states "compassion and empathy" but they are the exact opposite of those words. A prisoner or an animal locked in a cage would be treated better than their human patients. They do not know how to give people the dignity and respect they deserve. My sleep study was conducted on 4/10/26, and almost two months later I do not have my CPAP after a diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea. They put in a "RUSH" order to the wrong dme company on 5/22/26 without first checking that they are in network. They are not. They put in a second "RUSH" order into second dme company on 5/29/26. Again they did not confirm that this company provides CPAPs

Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Frequently asked questions about University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health Pulmonary Care and Sleep Medicine

What does University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health Pulmonary Care and Sleep Medicine do?

University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health Pulmonary Care and Sleep Medicine is a sleep medicine clinic in Bel Air, MD that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health Pulmonary Care and Sleep Medicine?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health Pulmonary Care and Sleep Medicine directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health Pulmonary Care and Sleep Medicine?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health Pulmonary Care and Sleep Medicine?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
