My kid had a polysomnogram done here and it was a perfectly fine experience. Jackie the technician is highly experienced and knows her work thoroughly, and is also just really kind. Sleeping alongside my kid in a Stryker hospital bed was a little weird, but it was great to have a motorized bed for once—tempts me to buy one if I can ever afford it. It does kinda suck to be awakened at 5:30 AM but them's the breaks. Pay your parking FIRST—the signage is ambiguous but you can be ticketed if you don't do that.

I had no issue getting a hold of someone. I waited 6 minutes and had an incredible experience with the person on the phone. Chianda (Name spelling def wrong...sorry!) was a delight to speak to on the phone.

Parking was easy as there were several options. The only difficulty was in entering the facility through the parking lot. There were virtually no signs and there was no clear way to enter the building except to go through the underground parking lot where there was not a walkway. It didn't seem very safe walking through an empty parking lot at 8:30 PM. There wasn't any security or signs. The entire Sleep Study experience was good except that they did not have a shower to wash off the GUI material that they require for the sleep study to be applied all over the head. I did find it a very pleasant experience considering it was a procedure. I do highly recommend it although I wish they would have signs and improve the entrance.

I had a sleep test done here in June 2023. The actual experience in the lab was great, no complaints. The instructions they provide about where to show up are clear, and the parking situation seemed secure (cost $10-11) and you can enter the lab lobby directly from the parking area. My technician, Ignacio, was professional and did a solid job. The room was more like a hospital ward with a gurney-style bed with course sheets, but it was private, quiet and I have no major complaints. The reason for four stars is that it was difficult to reach their office during business hours, a problem that other reviews have noted. If this happens to you, I recommend that you call back and select the option for the UCLA “patient experience” desk (seems kind of like a quality control office). They told m

I received an at home sleep study prescription from my primary care physician. When I called this morning to pick up my at home sleep study device, I was told that the next appointment was August 13–two months from now. When I inquired as to why I would need an appointment in the first place, and why would it take two months to fulfill an order for an at home sleep study device, I was told that they do not have these devices on hand, but must rent them from another company. That a sleep disorders center does not have these relatively inexpensive at home sleep study devices on hand tells you everything you need to know about this facility. One can easily go online and get a sleep study device from another medical provider the next day (which is what I have now done). That the UCLA Sleep Di

What to expect at a sleep study appointment

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about UCLA Sleep Disorders Center

What does UCLA Sleep Disorders Center do?

UCLA Sleep Disorders Center is a sleep medicine clinic in Los Angeles, CA that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at UCLA Sleep Disorders Center?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact UCLA Sleep Disorders Center directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at UCLA Sleep Disorders Center?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at UCLA Sleep Disorders Center?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
