Is there a 7 star option?!? Dr. Dalal is a literal life saver! I’ve struggled with extreme sleepiness for 20+ years, have seen countless specialists, and have had hundreds of tests. I decided to take one last shot at getting help and am so grateful my primary recommended him. He made me feel so heard and understood. He is kind and honest and super funny! Thanks to him, I feel like I have my life back - I’m more present with my family and friends, more alert at work, and I’m no longer falling asleep when I drive. He is truly an angel and just an awesome human. Thanks, Dr. D!

Between my husband, my daughter and myself, we have seen four different doctors at this practice in Falls Church and Arlington. We have always had excellent experiences. Everyone is professional and yet personable and helpful. We are very grateful for all the care we have already received and look forward to seeing the doctors again when needed.

Dr. Haber is a wonderful doctor. I saw her at the Falls Church office. Since catching covid for the 4th or 5th time and having back to back respiratory issues, I cannot seem to figure out what's wrong. I have a cough that gets triggered and once it does I will cough for the duration of the day. I had seen another pulmonologist and my wife had been urging me to switch because she was so dismissive and had zero bedside manner. That's how I found Dr. Haber and PMA. Dr. Haber is kind, thorough, and has a wonderful bedside manner. She actually listens and tries to get to the bottom of the issue. I can't say how much I appreciate that. I have autoimmune issues already that cause random inflammatory flares that doctors are quick to dismiss. Dr. Haber isn't like that at all. She actually called m

This was my first visit with PMA with Dr. Richter for Pulmonology. Registration process and wait time was short and sweet. Dr. Richter is great! He was very attentive at listening to my concerns and I did not feel rushed. He provides good feedback and explained my treatment options very clearly. Also it was very helpful to be able to get bloodwork done immediately downstairs at VHC’s outpatient lab as a walk-in. The lab staff was also super quick and efficient and Dr. Richter followed up with my results within 24 hours. Highly recommend this practice!

Very pleased with everyone I dealt with here. I had never been to a pulmonologist and didn’t know what to expect. Greg, who did the testing, and Dr Shea were fantastic. Their treatment is professional yet their care and concern really show.

What to expect at a sleep study appointment

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about PMA Health

What does PMA Health do?

PMA Health is a sleep medicine clinic in Arlington, VA that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at PMA Health?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact PMA Health directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at PMA Health?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at PMA Health?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
