12/31/25 I am a former patient of many years of Dr. Saqib Rashid's (whom I was very happy with). I went in to Modern Medicine today to request my past sleep apnea records and notes. There were two women working the reception desk, the younger Hispanic woman was helpful and printed out my records for me and answered my questions. I had to use the restroom and asked politely to use it, letting them know I really needed to go. The older woman with pink/burgundy glasses and an accent (sorry I don't know her name or ethnicity and this is the only way I can describe her) refused to allow me to use the restroom even though they have one for patients, there were no patients in the lobby, and she knows me from the past when I used to see Dr. Rashid for years. She has always been very cold and rude

I rarely do this but I felt it was well worth the time and effort due to the good experience I had. Never had a sleep study done , nor did I think I needed it. Fortunately I was scheduled twice to come in to this location and it was a very pleasant experience. Let me just start of by saying this process can be nerve racking just because no one is prepared for it and it’s the unknown that can be intimidating at times. With that being said I want to the thanksgiving BEN, he was amazing! He made me feel at ease both times, definitely explained everything and was so calm and relaxed and made things run smoothly. This young man loves his job and patients and you can see it in the way he does his job and how well mannered and spoken he is. Modern medicine make sure you don’t loose a great asset

First impressions are very important! My initial consultation did not impress me. I had a scheduled appointment and waited patiently, but to my surprise that the doctor was on the phone with her internet provider. Her conversation was so loud that I realized that I was waiting for her to finish her complaint with them. I was later lead into the examination room and still waited for her to finish. The doctor later came in briefly and shortly returned to a phone call to the internet company. Majority of my visit was taken up by her rant and complaint to her internet provider. The doctor was so flustered that her train of thought was not of the patient but of the internet provider. Very unprofessional!

I don't know where the paperwork went wrong, with my doctor or my insurance but the night of, I told them I had a CPAP machine already, they explained a few reasons why they might repeat it without the machine but I told her I was supposed to be here for testing with a machine because I was still experiencing issues with my current one at home. We did the testing without a machine. It'll likely come back normal or only slightly weird because I've been using one for about a year at home every other night. I'm pretty sure that makes the test useless and I'll have to repeat it Entirely useless and wasted my time,

What to expect at a sleep study appointment

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Modern Medicine

What does Modern Medicine do?

Modern Medicine is a sleep medicine clinic in Visalia, CA that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Modern Medicine?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Modern Medicine directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at Modern Medicine?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at Modern Medicine?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
