0 stars.. I am writing this review out of deep frustration regarding the care, or lack thereof, provided to my mother, who has been a patient with this company for over 10 years. The decline in service has been staggering. It feels as though there is a constant revolving door of employees, and the new management team seems completely lost. Unlike the previous managers, these individuals have no idea what they are talking about when it comes to oxygen therapy, which is incredibly dangerous given the nature of their business. This company is run horribly. The way they cycle through staff shows a blatant lack of care for both their employees and, more importantly, their patients. I have attempted to resolve these issues by reaching out to their quality assurance department via letters and ema

In April, an oximetry sleep study was ordered for me. HME denied receiving it twice. I then brought in the orders in person to the Santa Fe office last week, faxed to the Albuquerque office in front of me. When I did not hear back after this, I called and was told that it was sent back for more information. When I asked what kind of information because it is pretty clear that I need an oximetry test, I was told someone will call me within the next 24 hours to tell me why. Of course I received no phone call from anyone. I called the pulmonologist a minute ago and was told they never received anything about an information request from HME. What makes me the maddest is that I had an appointment for the results of this test tomorrow, July 15. Because I have never been given the oximeter to wea

Delivery guys are GREAT! Ashley at the front desk, not so much. Rude. Rude. Rude. Not just to me but my sister as well. Ashley threatened to withhold oxygen for my sick father, until other equipment was returned. She has been a consistent problem and we’ve had enough. Absolutely unacceptable.

Years ago we had a good experience with getting oxygen for our daughter, but recently it’s been a disaster getting CPAP supplies for myself. I’ve been working with them for a few months for CPAP supplies and everything has been a hassle or hasn’t happened: billing, not ever getting equipment I was supposed to, and orders being placed and never happening. If you have any choice not to use HME I highly recommend going with another option. I am currently working on trying to switch medical supply companies.

My experience with HME started out positively about 3 years ago by promptly delivering and setting up an oxygen concentrator. My mother requires air only at night while sleeping. However, they never responded to requests to order supplies (no problem, I found what I needed on Amazon) and billed extremely erratically. Sometimes they billed at the beginning of the month or the end of the month, sometimes twice a month, or they skipped months only to bill months or a year later. I finally decided to buy a unit for my mother in December, but have been unable to get them to pick up their unit. I have called 3 times so far. The first time I was told their unit would be picked up the next day. It didn't happen. The second time I was told I would be called back to schedule a pick up. I waited a we

What to expect at a sleep study appointment
For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.
Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about HME Specialists
What does HME Specialists do?
HME Specialists is a sleep medicine clinic in Santa Fe, NM that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.
Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at HME Specialists?
Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact HME Specialists directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.
How much does a sleep study cost at HME Specialists?
Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.
Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?
Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.
How long does it take to get sleep study results?
Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.
Can I do the sleep study at home?
Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.
What should I bring to my appointment at HME Specialists?
Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
