I was sent here by another surgeon because of a Tumor found while completing another procedure. It was a complex issue and the surgeon vouched for Dr Hachem so I trusted him. Dr Hachem was good at explaining what needed to be done and how he wanted to go about it and I appreciate how he explained it to me Day of surgery I speak to his fellow Yara and explain an issue and she said she would talk to figure out a plan for the issue. See Dr Hachem, go to go for surgery and wake up. Its been nothing but nightmares since. Surgery- Im 100% confident in Yara and Hachems skills and talent to get the job done. I can smell and taste better than I have prior! After care- I really dont want to go back but I have no choice due to how surgeries work. I have a nerve pain syndrome making my nerves ex

Like other experiences noted in the other reviews: I went here for a brief visit where I just talked with a specialist and had no procedures/testing done. I expected to just pay a $20 specialist copay, but I *also* ended up paying hundreds of dollars for “hospital services” because this clinic is in the hospital, and this was not covered by my insurance. Called billing, they won’t do anything about it. Visit a provider at a different clinic outside the hospital if you can, and ideally don’t go to Duke Health at all!

Really liked my doctor, Dr. Cohen, yet fully agree about the charges noted below. I am required to pay nearly $300 for a 20 min check up with a doctor, with insurance. I can't imagine what the cost would be if I actually had a medical procedure with this office. I expected more from Duke Health.

If this had 0 stars I would have chosen that. I recently went to see a specialist and ended up with an appointment with PA Jenalyn Kay Logan. My health problems were diminished and she was not respectful whatsoever. At one point during the visit I had a question and started to speak when she held up her pointer finger and said "I'll give you your attention in a minute". She had poor communication and undermined my concerns. She was condescending and made me feel so uncomfortable that I had to seek elsewhere for care. My primary care doctor disagreed with the consult and recommended a second opinion. You would think a specialist would be able to help. I could go into more detail about the actual medical treatment I got that was unnecessary and repetitive making my pharmacist even second gue

What to expect at a sleep study appointment

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Duke Otolaryngology and Oral Surgery Clinic - Clinic 1F

What does Duke Otolaryngology and Oral Surgery Clinic - Clinic 1F do?

Duke Otolaryngology and Oral Surgery Clinic - Clinic 1F is a sleep medicine clinic in Durham, NC that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Duke Otolaryngology and Oral Surgery Clinic - Clinic 1F?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Duke Otolaryngology and Oral Surgery Clinic - Clinic 1F directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at Duke Otolaryngology and Oral Surgery Clinic - Clinic 1F?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at Duke Otolaryngology and Oral Surgery Clinic - Clinic 1F?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
