Attn: Management and owners of Carolina Home Medical! This review was 100% unsolicited. Kera Outlaw was amazing she was the reason I had a great experience! She deserves a raise and a promotion in my opinion! She handled what I thought was a challenging meeting so well and smooth. She made me now a loyal customer of Kera Outlaw, and Carolina Home Medical. I was running behind and she calmed me down and took her time and was just wonderful! Today I had a scheduled appointment to get fitted and oriented with my new CPAP machine. Kera was just so nice, well spoken, explained everything so well, and just amazing. I was running late and she was very flexible and helpful with me! She did such a great job of teaching me about the machine, and how to use it and make it work

Recently worked with CHM to have a handicap ramp installed. The experience from first inquiry to last follow up text was stress free. Even a neighbor commented “ they are professionals “ just from watching them install it.

I was diagnosed with COPD and needed 24/7 oxygen care. I was referred to chm by hospital coordinator and the foundation. I waited for Tyrik to bring me a tank to be able to go home. When I arrived at my house he got out of truck and gave me and my sister a 5 minute lesson on what to do. Okay, everything seemed to sound fairly easy but it didn't turn out that way. I called on Saturday I had no response. I called again Sunday Tyrik called me around 8 p.m.. He asked me what was wrong I stated to him I don't have any oxygen. So he instructed me how to use a portable until he comes to my house Monday morning. Monday and Tuesday no Tyrik. Wednesday I went to my follow up appointment. Afterwards I went to chm to see what was going on. I saw Tyrik sitting in the back room. I stated to a lady what

This company is impossible to work with. I was told that I would have to make a monthly payment for a cpap machine for the first 7 months. After that the machine would be mine. When they continued to bill me I called for resolution and was told my last payment would be July. It is now October and this company is still charging my insurance company and when I call they can’t answer my questions and will have to get someone to call me back.

What to expect at a sleep study appointment

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Carolina Home Medical

What does Carolina Home Medical do?

Carolina Home Medical is a sleep medicine clinic in New Bern, NC that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Carolina Home Medical?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Carolina Home Medical directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at Carolina Home Medical?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at Carolina Home Medical?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
