I am writing to express my concerns regarding my sleep study appointment that was scheduled at the Whittier location on April 18, 2026. However, I received a text message on April 17, 2026, informing me that it had been rescheduled to the Montebello location, which I accepted. Although the technician was professional, technical issues with equipment connectivity prevented the completion of the second part of the study. Despite multiple calls to the office, I was advised to obtain a new authorization from my doctor. After contacting my insurance provider and receiving the new authorization on May 12, 2026, I reached out to the office to schedule the completion of the study, requesting an earlier appointment due to the unavailability of slots four to eight weeks out. Arguably the worst experience dealing with a medical professional's office I've ever had. There is too much to type to spell out all the back and forth over many months, but the TLDR is they refuse to send the patient their results in direct violation of HIPAA. They also make scheduling difficult and refuse to answer simple questions about procedures before you go in. Jolene appears to be the ring leader but Carla is equally unhelpful. If either of these two were my employees, I would let them go asap. The way they treat patients is shameful. I would not wish this office on my worst enemy.

I had my sleep study in January 2024 and I am still waiting for the results (September 2024). I must have called them about 7 times so far and every time they tell me they have faxed the results to my primary doctor's fax number. When I tell them that this is NOT my doctor's fax number and try to give them the correct number, they treat me with suspicion. Then I ask them to call my doctor. So far, there is no progress. I call my doctor's office and they have not received communication from ABC. Now, I need to replace my CPAP hose and mask and get new filters and the situation is once again the same. Last time I contacted ABC was September 17th. Again, they gave me the wrong fax number, so I gave them the right one. They said that they will call the doctor to confirm the number I gave them.

What to expect at a sleep study appointment
For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.
Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about ABC Sleep Disorders Center
What does ABC Sleep Disorders Center do?
ABC Sleep Disorders Center is a sleep medicine clinic in Montebello, CA that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.
Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at ABC Sleep Disorders Center?
Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact ABC Sleep Disorders Center directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.
How much does a sleep study cost at ABC Sleep Disorders Center?
Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.
Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?
Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.
How long does it take to get sleep study results?
Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.
Can I do the sleep study at home?
Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.
What should I bring to my appointment at ABC Sleep Disorders Center?
Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
