I'm a new patient of Dr Shah and I couldn't be happier with my experience with him. I love it when a doctor can hear and actually listen to me and come up with a plain to help me get back on top of life. Thank you for making me laugh and feel excited about becoming one of your patients. I have a lot to look forward to and with your plans I'm sure I will get to enjoy life again. Your one Doctor that everyone wants and needs now a days. Thank you 😊

Never seen a doctor's office in my entire life where you can't get anyone on the phone, they don't answer. They don't return messages, nothing.

I've been going to Dr. Shah for, at least, 5 years. In that time I probably would've given them a 4 star rating. However, in the last few months the office staff has managed to reverse my opinion completely. Dr. Shah forgot to send in my annual prescription for cpap supplies back in September. I have been traveling a lot for work, too. So, I've mostly been communicating with them through voice-mail because they don't answer the phone. I don't know if they have caller ID and are avoiding me or what. They have stopped returning my calls completely, at this point. I thought that maybe if I go up there and talk to the office manager, I would get somewhere but no. She hasn't returned my call either and here I am not able to continue my therapy because of their lack of communication skills. 😒 I

It has been an absolute whirlwind trying to work with this practice. I’d like the say that I am a very anxious/quiet person and I have never done a review in my life. But trying to get ahold of this office (any location) is nearly impossible. I had my at home sleep study done the first week of January, it was mailed back by 1/10/24. I was told at at original appt, it would usually take 2-3 weeks to get results in. I scheduled for March 12, but I got it moved on a cancellation to Feb 9th, given that that would be 1 month past my initial visit. My appt has been r/s 3 times whether it be the doctor was not there or results weren’t in. It is now March 7th, and I went to my appt today. I had called 2 days prior to ensure my results would be there. The lady on the phone said it wasn’t in my chart

I found Dr. Shah to be very good. He recognized my possible diagnoses and ordered test for verification. He was very personable and I felt comfortable with him. Now, the NP rushed through her questions and bedside manner left something to be desired. When I make an effort to get to an appointment on time I expect to be seen in reasonable period of time and not be rushed. They require you complete 14 pages of detailed new patient paperwork but then they ask you the same questions and have the paperwork right in front of them. What is the point. The front office and MA were just a mess. They definitely need some changes. The supporting office staff can make a doctor look good or bad. Three stars are really for Dr. Shah otherwise it would have been a 1-2.

What to expect at a sleep study appointment
For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.
Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Tidewater Neurologists, Inc. & Sleep Disorders Specialists
What does Tidewater Neurologists, Inc. & Sleep Disorders Specialists do?
Tidewater Neurologists, Inc. & Sleep Disorders Specialists is a sleep medicine clinic in Chesapeake, VA that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.
Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Tidewater Neurologists, Inc. & Sleep Disorders Specialists?
Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Tidewater Neurologists, Inc. & Sleep Disorders Specialists directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.
How much does a sleep study cost at Tidewater Neurologists, Inc. & Sleep Disorders Specialists?
Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.
Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?
Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.
How long does it take to get sleep study results?
Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.
Can I do the sleep study at home?
Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.
What should I bring to my appointment at Tidewater Neurologists, Inc. & Sleep Disorders Specialists?
Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
