This place does not value your time or your money. Awful customer service at the desk and it’s clear that the people at the desk could care less about your experience. I can only wait an hour past my appointment time so many times and be disrespected and run around By the nurse practitioner, Caitlyn Johnson As a military veteran, I am appalled with the treatment that I have received here and I suggest you go to another doctor office for your sleep and pulmonary care

Met with a doctor here who told me I would need to be referred to psych when psych is who told me I’d need to ask my PCP to get me a referral here so I did just that. Tired of the run around in the healthcare industry and constantly being invalidated. I was especially invalidated here, cut off, and left feeling so gaslit after my consultation. Once I went to check out I was told I would hear from someone in a week in regards to getting a sleep study scheduled… it’s been months since I came here and just heard from scheduling today….

DO NOT GO TO THIS FACILITY! The drs are garbage! My husband had triple bypass surgery he has severe sleep apnea he just came home from the hospital and his machine is ramped to high now that his heart has been fixed it’s causing to much air and is putting him in extreme pain after this surgery he has called the one call Dr over 6 times and they will not respond! They make it so the ramp can’t be adjusted manually it can only be done remote from this facility! This is an emergency situation and they will not respond. Def finding my husband a new place to go where the doctors care enough about the patients to return a call! Triple bypass is a serious surgery that impacts the lungs so he can not go to sleep because he keeps stopping breathing because he can’t use his machine. I’m def reporti

NP Johnson was wonderful at my initial appointment discussing my condition and explaining why it was affecting my sleep. at the sleep study, Mike was my sleep technician, and he did an outstanding job explaining the process to me as I was going through the study. Facility seemed a little dated but was very clean and organized, beds were adjustable yet noisy when changing pressure (pump noise) but overall comfortable. When i went in for the follow-up Dr. Dhawan did a great job explaining to me the results and answering my questions. Overall experience was positive at both the Chesapeake and Va Beach locations.

The facility is convenient and staff friendly. My complaint is that there is no wheelchair access. I arrived with my aunt in order for her to have breathing tests. I pushed her in her wheelchair while rolling her oxygen alongside. We get to the door and there is no button to help with doors. I stood there wondering how I was gonna push her with one hand, roll oxygen with another, and open two doors to get her through. It seems that this type facility sees many elderly patients that require oxygen and would be in similar conditions. Was a little confused.

What to expect at a sleep study appointment
For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.
Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Sleep Specialists of Tidewater
What does Sleep Specialists of Tidewater do?
Sleep Specialists of Tidewater is a sleep medicine clinic in Virginia Beach, VA that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.
Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Sleep Specialists of Tidewater?
Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Sleep Specialists of Tidewater directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.
How much does a sleep study cost at Sleep Specialists of Tidewater?
Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.
Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?
Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.
How long does it take to get sleep study results?
Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.
Can I do the sleep study at home?
Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.
What should I bring to my appointment at Sleep Specialists of Tidewater?
Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
