I had a two day sleep study done in December of 2025. I am still waiting for the results. I have called and messaged the doctor multiple times. Still waiting. I have been trying to get help for a neurological condition for over 8 years and was so hopeful when I got into Stanford. I wouldn't recommend this center to anyone.

After multiple headaches, insomnia and going through other life changes at my age, I was told I had to go through a sleep study here instead of taking home a home kit instead. Surprise! Was not looking forward to it but it was actually not bad. After seeing all the bad reviews, I must have been an exception. I saw here Doctors Amita Goyal, MD who then spoke with Anstella Robinson, MD and discussed thoroughly my diagnosis and concluded I should follow through with the clinic sleep study. I was then able to schedule it a little over a month. I could have done it sooner but it was not convenient at the time. Still. I didn’t have to wait long like others. I came to the office and was met with it seems like 5 other sleep study patients. James, the tech, took me in to my room and he was a plea

I have severe obstructive sleep apnea. I have been using CPAP for years. I only need a yearly visit. Sometimes in person, sometimes a video visit. Darby NP is my sleep provider. My machine electronically sends information to Darby if my mask leaks or not and my sleep parameters. Medicare covers the replacement of the equipment. I am very pleased with the care I am receiving. 🙂

Don't waste your time. Apparently, Stanford is not ready to operate this clinic in a manner that is indicative of their reputation. Long waits, short staff, abysmal appointment availability, and good luck talking to someone should you have questions.

I had sleep study this clinic in May 2023. I really appreciate the help from the scheduling staff, Dr. Robinson and the technician conducted my overnight sleep study all are very respectful and professional. I remembered one week before my sleep study day, I received a letter from my insurance that they denied my upcoming sleep study unless I could submit more documents to prove the needs. I was frustrated and tried to call my insurance to clarify what I needed to submit. Surprisingly, when I called, my insurance said no need, your doctor at Stanford already submitted and you are good to go. That's one thing I appreciate Stanford that they are actively communicate with insurance company to release patient's burden to communicate with insurance themselves. I want to praise the overnight s

What to expect at a sleep study appointment

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Sleep Medicine-Stanford Healthcare

What does Sleep Medicine-Stanford Healthcare do?

Sleep Medicine-Stanford Healthcare is a sleep medicine clinic in Redwood City, CA that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Sleep Medicine-Stanford Healthcare?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Sleep Medicine-Stanford Healthcare directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at Sleep Medicine-Stanford Healthcare?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at Sleep Medicine-Stanford Healthcare?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
