I went here 3 times and never went back. The 1st experience was ok. I liked my Dr. and that was the first and last time I've seen him. My 2nd and 3rd visits were just nurses that all told me different things and were giving me different tests that weren't needed. They kept sending my medicine to the wrong pharmacy. The wait time was 45mins to an hour even when your appointment is at 9AM you won't see them until 10:55AM or later, it's so unprofessional. The lady that did my blood work had a nasty attitude. Walking through that building was like walking through a maze, it was a very confusing place to be. So overall 1/5 Awful experience. Long wait times. Rude staff. Unorganized. You will never see the actual Dr. only his nurses.

This is one of the most unprofessional, uncaring, and uncommunicative places I've ever been to. Dr. Nichols seemed lovely the one time we met him, but we were not told our appointment would be in this location not Ford City where he's listed as he took over for Dr. Bowling. *Edit* No more extension roulette as they've finally updated the call directory names. There's a semicircle of check-in windows with name plates that aren't all visible. No one greets you nor offers help to the window you need to be and by your third visit they'll tell you the room number and expect you to find it. Our first appointment was at 2:30 we sat in the waiting room for over an hour - not that it mattered since we waited just as long in a room and didn't actually get seen until 5 (closing). I've been a patient of Dr. George Evans and Nurse Practioner Sidney Berryman for almost 4 years. I don't' have any complaints at all about being a patient there. I am almost always seen on time. The receptionist is always pleasant and do are the LPN's and CNA's. When you sign into your patient portal, it shows you your lab results, medications listed and almost any information you need. He

Haven't been here since 2020, but I'm still salty about it. The physician's assistant with initials M R needs to find a job where she doesn't have to speak to so many people she feels contempt for. The office staff could be replaced by AI, and it would be an improvement.

You're likely going to wait 45 mins or so past your schedule time. You're going to have to repeat yourself to the staff a few times, as they will repeat something different back to you. Make sure they document what you say, not something else. Get ready for a bad time.

What to expect at a sleep study appointment

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Shoals Primary Care

What does Shoals Primary Care do?

Shoals Primary Care is a sleep medicine clinic in Sheffield, AL that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Shoals Primary Care?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Shoals Primary Care directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at Shoals Primary Care?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at Shoals Primary Care?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
