I will say the positive is a gentleman that does your study at night. He is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. The doctor is also. Past that is borderline horrible. You have the front desk who will NEVER call you back. With one particular woman that is disrespectful and rude. This could be a nice place if the doctor worked on the entitlement of his staff. The rooms are ok. The bed was comfortable for sure. But this place completely wasted my time and i don't live in Salem. Went for the 2nd part of my study to wake up and realize there was never a machine put on me. I believe when they realized i was trying to get zepbound they decided to discontinue my study and all the sudden I'm cured and no longer needed a machine. But was told my oxygen dropped to 81 at test. I would not re

I’m extremely frustrated with the answer I got today for my appointment. I arrived at 11:36 my appointment was at 11:30. I understand they have a 5 minute late policy. This was never shared with me but I understand most places have one. I’m a contractor and happened to be working in Portland that day. I left extra early to give myself plenty of time but it still was not enough. I called the office and let them know I’m gonna be a few minutes late as Portland traffic can be hard to navigate. I was 60 seconds past the late window and I was told sorry no exceptions. Had I arrived 60 seconds sooner it would have been okay. Yet if they are running behind we are expected to wait. The appointment was a simple follow up appointment and all I was needing was to renew my prescription so I can conti

This office is absolutely incompetent. My partner has been going through this clinic for months attempting to get a diagnosis. 3 studies later and has been diagnosed with Narcolepsy. This diagnosis requires medication and due to the staff’s complete lack of urgency, he has been without this medication for the majority of his diagnosis because they cannot file a basic form to insurance. For the whole one month my partner was able to receive his medication, he was still falling asleep throughout the day and reported this to his doctor. The response? They upped his medication and told him to reduce his expectations when it came to living with his disorder. Since that conversation, he has been unable to fill his prescription due to their filing errors. This means he is falling asleep cooking,

I'm so disappointed in this office that I will be searching for another Sleep Doctor. I have gone here for over 15 years and experienced unprofessional dropped balls multiple times. Today was the one that pushed me over the edge. I had an 8:45 teledoc appt with Kate Molyneux. I usually meet with Dr Shim but this was just for CPAP supplies so I didn't care. I received a confirmation yesterday to my cell phone, When I didn't get a link, I called the front office, they said I would get a link shortly. After 25 minutes I called again and they said "We sent you a link and you didn't respond. Then she said "Ooops it looks like we were one digit off and we had the wrong phone number. You will need to make another appointment and I have one available tomorrow at 3:30" I said no that doe

I had the best experience ever at Salem Sleep Medicine. Dr. Shim took time to explain everything that was going to happen. The staff was available to help when Dr. Shim went on vacation. I received phone calls checking on me when I was struggling with my situation. Not just from the staff, but also from Kate, the PA, and Dr. Shim. Both were concerned about the medication and if I was able to sleep. I have not had a doctor call me at home to check on me in about 10 years. I am very happy with my care at Salem Sleep Medicine.

What to expect at a sleep study appointment

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Salem Sleep Medicine, P.C.

What does Salem Sleep Medicine, P.C. do?

Salem Sleep Medicine, P.C. is a sleep medicine clinic in SALEM, OR that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Salem Sleep Medicine, P.C.?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Salem Sleep Medicine, P.C. directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at Salem Sleep Medicine, P.C.?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at Salem Sleep Medicine, P.C.?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
