Before today, I've never been to a medical office where the provider outwardly could not care less. That provider's name is Phyllis Phelps. The doctor that I saw here initially must have retired and sold the practice. This place is significantly different now and not in a good way. They have all new PA's. Well, they need the old ones back... I left this appointment feeling unheard and disappointed. The provider was very short in her responses, frequently talked over me, and offered little explanation or guidance. Her demeanor came across as very dismissive, as though my concerns were an inconvenience rather than something to address. One example that stood out was when she said she didn’t know whether the VA even had a CT scanner, despite telling me she had previously worked there.

I hate giving bad reviews but when the medical assistant hangs up on you. You kind of have to. First off I have to say my child goes here for his asthma. It is severe and he needs a pulmonologist. Well he has only been seen once. He has had three appointments and two have been cancelled on him the day of appointment confirmation. But So they could still get our co pay they had him come in and do a breathing test. He didn’t see get to see the doc and when I asked if they could refill his inhaler medications they said the doc would. I called twice to see if the refill had been sent in. We are military so it goes through the base to get his meds. Twice I was told it hasn’t been sent in. So I call the office and ask if they are going to send it. The medical assistant told me that the pulmonolo

My visit was very informative and I was glad to get to the facts about my illness. I would be glad to recommend this establishment to anyone with an ear who is looking for a pulmonologist. Dr Rao listened with intent and answered matter of factly.

I was seen by them in January. I was there for less than 30 minutes to be told that there was nothing the pulmonologist could do. Supposedly, the records he had from the sleep center I went to in Crestview was "missing" information. All I needed was my CPAP machine and for him to write the prescription for it, but he wouldn't. I left in tears. The Dr. Rao said I wouldn't be charged for the visit. I have been. He wasn't very sympathetic nor did he truly explain why he couldn't just call the sleep center and get what he was missing. I've called and no one is returning my call. I am not paying nearly $200 for a visit in which I left in tears and wasted my gas driving from Crestview to Pensacola. That same paperwork in which I was told stuff was missing was used by the pulmonologist i

For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Frequently asked questions about Pulmonary Critical Care & Sleep Disorders Medicine, PA

What does Pulmonary Critical Care & Sleep Disorders Medicine, PA do?

Pulmonary Critical Care & Sleep Disorders Medicine, PA is a sleep medicine clinic in Pensacola, FL that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Pulmonary Critical Care & Sleep Disorders Medicine, PA?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Pulmonary Critical Care & Sleep Disorders Medicine, PA directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at Pulmonary Critical Care & Sleep Disorders Medicine, PA?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at Pulmonary Critical Care & Sleep Disorders Medicine, PA?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
