Oh, if you could only give zero stars. While this organization may know how to evaluate sleep disorders, the administrative side of the equation could be handled better by grade schoolers. They seem to find it impossible to properly forward documentation to insurance/equipment providers. My wife has wasted hours piling into days trying to get them to take the SIMPLE steps necessary for her to get the supplies required to treat her issue. Looking very much forward to the day we're no longer operating in the dismal fog of the POOR administrative side of Munson.

It was the worst experience ever! They put this waxy substance on my scalp and connected many wires to my head. It was so uncomfortable. After a few hours I became violently sick convulsing and vomiting. My heart was racing and my head was pounding. I was light headed and dizzy. They had to call ER to come and take me to MUNSON ER. They gave me anti nausea medicine to try to stop the vomiting and convulsing . It took a couple of hours in ER, tests and monitoring the vitals, but I finally came back a little to normal. It’s 3 days later and my head is still pounding. The waxy substance is hard to get out of my hair. I definitely had a reaction to their monitoring system. Shame on the Sleep Center for me (an 70 year old woman) ending up in the ER! I DO NOT recommend this sleep

I went to Dr. Abdul Malik on 12/16/2025 after months of not sleeping and my family physcian taking me off a perscription, I had taken for 29yrs for sleep. He perscribed back half of my old dose of medication and another pill for me. I finally started sleeping again, after 3mos of hell and sleeping maybe 2 hrs a night. He truly understood that some of us, just have difficulty sleeping. He was truly a life saver for me. I am once again able to sleep and not feeling tired the next day. I have had difficulty sleeping from age 34-63 yrs. Truly blessed to have met Dr. Malik!

Had the misfortune of being fereffer to Lois Neering. She worked with my fiance for a sleep study and trying to adjust to using a sleep apnea machine which causes him panic attacks that ended up not being solveable. He and I decided together to seek other treatment and lifestyle changes. When he had a follow up to let her know that, she told him effectively that he was making a poor decision and needed to accept that he was going to die without the machine. Incredibly disrespectful and presumptuous to say rather than trying to assist him in pivoting to other treatment. I was also meant to see her for a consult for a sleep study and she was 25 minutes late to the point I had to go back to work (waited my whole lunch for her) and then called me about 5-6 times and texted about 11 times. Used to have a good friendly staff with a helpful and knowledgeable doctor. That’s no longer the case. I was a patient here for over 8 years and they essentially abandoned me in the middle of our ongoing treatment plan. Good luck getting them to answer the phone. I showed up to a scheduled appointment, drove 45 minutes and left work when I arrived the doors were locked. They even sent me a text reminding me of my appointment. Even the staff on the bottom floor was puzzled and had no answers. I work 50 hours a week, I’m going to college, and raising a child. On top of all that I have to fight them to send my prescriptions to treat my Narcolepsy. Not sure what is going on at this place but it’s truly disgusting. Don’t waste your time coming to this “sleep specialist” you’d be better off s

What to expect at a sleep study appointment
For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.
Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Munson Sleep Disorders Center
What does Munson Sleep Disorders Center do?
Munson Sleep Disorders Center is a sleep medicine clinic in Traverse City, MI that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.
Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Munson Sleep Disorders Center?
Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Munson Sleep Disorders Center directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.
How much does a sleep study cost at Munson Sleep Disorders Center?
Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.
Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?
Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.
How long does it take to get sleep study results?
Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.
Can I do the sleep study at home?
Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.
What should I bring to my appointment at Munson Sleep Disorders Center?
Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
