The sleep testing process went smoothly and was very efficient. Unfortunately, everything after that was a nightmare. I paid for overnight shipping on my CPAP machine, but FedEx was unable to complete the delivery because of construction in my hallway. There were multiple accessible entrances to the building, so this should not have been an issue. Over the next week, I was repeatedly told delivery would be reattempted, only to eventually learn that the package had been returned to Lofta. I contacted customer service and requested that the machine be reshipped. Weeks later, after hearing very little, I followed up and was told it was ready for pickup at an address that does not exist. Now I am being told it was picked up from a different address entirely. At this point, it has been nearl

One of the biggest scams in the USA currently, thanks to the new DOT regulations. My husband made a mistake and went to one of the corporate DOT exam clinics, and got sent to the sleep study, despite having normal blood pressure and zero symptoms of sleep apnea. He never snored a day in his life. His manager at work told him personally that it was all a pyramid scheme in order to stick you with the machine. So instead of going to a clinic to do the study, we purchased a test from Lofta. My hubby went to sleep like he always does, 4 feet away from me. I work nights from home and I was awake the entire night while he was asleep, in the same room. He never snored in 5.5 hours of sleep, and most certainly did not choke or stopped breathing. He turned around few times, like a normal person woul

BEWARE: Do NOT buy sleep test device here! Go to SLEEP DOCTOR or anyone else. Note: you see only 5 and 1 star reviews here…that is a red flag…many of the 5 star reviews are written by the same person…I found three identical reviews with different names). I purchased their Sleep Test device paid for it and they never shipped it to me so I reached out a few weeks later and they told me I needed to complete a long survey so I reluctantly took the long survey which took me a lot of time and they still didn’t ship it out so I called back again and they told me that I need to schedule an appointment with someone over the phone…when the scheduled time arrived my phone rang 3 times and stopped. I called back immediately within five seconds and he was no longer available to take my call. I

Customer service is atrocious. Seems like anyone that answers a phone doesn’t actually work there. I had a video call to get my sleep results and nobody bothered to show up. Just sat in the virtual waiting room for 15 minutes before I got kicked out. Now a can’t get anybody on the phone to go over my results with me. I feel like they basically stole my money.

What to expect at a sleep study appointment

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Lofta

What does Lofta do?

Lofta is a sleep medicine clinic in San Diego, CA that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Lofta?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Lofta directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at Lofta?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at Lofta?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
