Unhelpful. Unwilling to communicate. Outdated CPAPs. Wasn’t surprised when the kind attendant came in to put on the CPAP… but I was surprised that it was so old school it doesn’t detect you breathing and speed up/slow down like every modern machine. Between that and not having only 3 mask designs to trial (side sleeping/mouth breathing here) therapy was intolerable and I could not sleep. Without my asking, she took off my mask and said they could use it as a baseline sleep study. I thought she was being compassionate. I now know that meant they would want another $700+ for another inpatient sleep study. 😐 It gets worse. The office won’t copy you on the report, so unless your GP follows up with you, you won’t know it’s done. Pro Sleep Care will not discuss it with you, the patient

For something I was dreading to do, Dane, the gentleman who was attending to us, made the experience very pleasant. He was kind, patient, and when my oxygen thing came off my finger, he was on it making sure it was back on and secure. I can't say enough about him. He's a good guy and you're lucky to have him. WE were lucky to have him. My only complaint is that my room was freezing, but then DANE made sure I was warm and cozy, even tucking me in burrito style like I do at home. Thank you Dane ! 🌴

Had an “in home” sleep study last night. Arrived at their office at 8:00 PM to pick up the equipment and receive instructions from Dane. He was great! He took my insurance information and gave me detailed instructions for hooking up the small monitor to my chest. Slept well in my own bed! Easy peasy!

Be sure to check with your insurance before handing over your debit card. I had a sleep study here this summer, and upon my arrival I was told my copay was $800. However, once my insurance had processed the claim, they said my copay was only $50. Which is quite a large discrepancy. I called Pro Sleep Care three times to inquire about his, and each time I was told the person who handles that was "in a meeting." Finally on my fourth try I got a little aggressive and they promptly sent me a check for $750. I wonder how many other people have paid $800 when they only owed $50 ... ETA: I have spoken to my insurance company. As an in-network provider, it goes against contract for you to charge me anything other than the previously negotiated rate, which was $50. You charged me $800 and now say

What to expect at a sleep study appointment

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Pro Sleep Care

What does Pro Sleep Care do?

Pro Sleep Care is a sleep medicine clinic in Palm Desert, CA that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Pro Sleep Care?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Pro Sleep Care directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at Pro Sleep Care?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at Pro Sleep Care?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
