I have struggled with sleep apnea for many years and tried various doctors who quickly prescribed CPAP therapy, which often kept me awake all night. One day, I came across Dr. Todd at Gulf Coast Sleep Specialist online and decided to give him a try — and I couldn’t be more grateful that I did. From the very first appointment, Dr. Todd and Jenny Todd are among the nicest, most genuine people you will ever meet. Unlike other doctors I’ve seen, Dr. Todd takes the time to thoroughly explain everything in detail and is always willing to listen and answer all of my questions. His extensive knowledge of sleep apnea and related sleep issues is evident, and it’s clear he is truly dedicated to helping his patients achieve restful, quality sleep. Thanks to Dr. Todd’s expert care, I am now sleeping

I have struggled with insomnia and sleep anxiety most of my adult life. As an Anesthesiologist, the added stress of chronic fatigue affected my ability to concentrate. As a husband and father, my poor sleep led to mood swings and emotional lability. Dr. Todd and his wife, Jenny, have transformed my ability to fall asleep, stay asleep, and wake up refreshed. They gave me the tools to gain control of my sleep health, and in the process have become great mentors/ friends. I would recommend them to anyone who is serious about fixing their sleep problem(s), and improving their overall health in the process. William Pitman, MD

This is my recent experience with Dr Todd, Gulf Coast Sleep Specialist. We were referred to his clinic for a sleep study by our primary care nurse practitioner. Dr Todd was introduced as a retired dental surgeon who subsequently studied sleep. He is very personable and knowledgeable about the subject, but as a credentialed dental surgeon lacks Medicare and insurance billing capabilities for sleep therapy. The sleep study he recommends is a convenient home-based study that cost $300 (cash). The study is reviewed by a company in Atlanta and also by a local pulmonologist. Dr Todd explains the results of the study and then patients are encouraged to take the study back to their primary care provider who is to write the prescription for the CPAP machine if indicated. That prescription and clini

My wife was being kept awake at night because of my snoring. More importantly, she worried about what appeared to her as me gasping for breath throughout the night. I did a sleep study and was diagnosed with sleep apnea. It was scary how many times I would stop breathing while asleep. I started using a CPAP machine, and while they work great for some people, it was not the answer for me. It made me feel claustrophobic, making it hard to fall asleep. Dr. Todd suggested an oral sleep appliance as a possible alternative. I was willing to give it a try and am so happy I did. Dr. Todd provided me with a custom appliance that fits perfectly. I now fall asleep easily and according to my wife snoring is a thing of the past. More importantly, I sleep soundly at night without gasping for a

What to expect at a sleep study appointment
For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.
Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Gulf Coast Sleep Specialist
What does Gulf Coast Sleep Specialist do?
Gulf Coast Sleep Specialist is a sleep medicine clinic in Foley, AL that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.
Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Gulf Coast Sleep Specialist?
Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Gulf Coast Sleep Specialist directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.
How much does a sleep study cost at Gulf Coast Sleep Specialist?
Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.
Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?
Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.
How long does it take to get sleep study results?
Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.
Can I do the sleep study at home?
Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.
What should I bring to my appointment at Gulf Coast Sleep Specialist?
Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
