I am usually not a fan of Geisinger as a whole but my daughter-in-law recently had her first child in their birthing center in Scranton and I cannot say enough of how pleased I am. My son and I were with her the whole time (had to spend the night as she was induced). The one on one care and attention we all received was incredible. At one point I was calling them all fairy Godmothers. Even the woman restocking the nutrition room was friendly and personable asking how my loved-one was doing and wishing us luck. The names I can remember are Skye, Allie and Dr. Greene, but everyone was wonderful and I'm sorry I can't name them all to give credit. Allie and another nurse pretty much delivered my granddaughter as she delivered so quickly! I would definitely recommend this location.

We brought my dad to the ER yesterday with a high fever. Within 20 minutes, he was evaluated. From that point on, he received excellent care from Dr Saunders and the entire staff! Nick, who was my dad’s nurse, took exceptional care of him all day. He was admitted. The process of getting him to his room was seamless. Overall, great experience.

I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience with Geisinger staff. As a brand new patient, this was a terrible introduction to the healthcare system. Over the weekend leading up to my scheduled procedure, our area was hit by a severe storm, and we lost power for multiple days. Because of this, I was unable to properly complete my pre-surgery preparations. I tried everything humanly possible to keep my appointment and make things work under impossible circumstances—unfortunately, I cannot control the weather or command a storm to pass just because I have a medical procedure scheduled. When I called the office to responsibly cancel and explain the situation, the staff was remarkably rude, dismissive, and lacked basic empathy. To make matters worse, I was hung up on twice. As a ne

I had an accident and slipped on ice and fell down some stairs and hit my head. It knocked me out briefly and my head was bleeding pretty badly. My husband rushed me to CMC they did a scan and the PA didn’t see anything major with my head minus a concussion, so they began to treat the actual wound. She didn’t clean my head, remove the debris, or even try to get through the large amount of dried blood in my hair to see the extent of my injuries. The PA found a tiny cut above my left ear and told me that it could use a staple or if I wanted they could put a little glue in it to hold it closed. I asked her how a cut so small above my ear could cover my entire head in blood. She head the head bleeds a lot. She sent me home to go to sleep and told me around 4-5pm I can rinse the dried blo

My mom has been in and out for the past month due to a large hematoma and then a later infection. She was brought in as a trauma and immediately into OR. Afterwards doctor came and SAT with me to explain everything very thoroughly. She was then moved to PCU for over a week. Every nurse was amazing and treated her well. She had 3 additional trips to OR for her wound and each time doctors took time to discuss . They have never rushed her care and take my concerns seriously insuring she gets the care she needs .

What to expect at a sleep study appointment
For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.
Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Geisinger Community Medical Center
What does Geisinger Community Medical Center do?
Geisinger Community Medical Center is a sleep medicine clinic in Scranton, PA that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.
Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Geisinger Community Medical Center?
Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Geisinger Community Medical Center directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.
How much does a sleep study cost at Geisinger Community Medical Center?
Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.
Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?
Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.
How long does it take to get sleep study results?
Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.
Can I do the sleep study at home?
Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.
What should I bring to my appointment at Geisinger Community Medical Center?
Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
