Austin is so fortunate to have such an outstanding hospital for children. We have ended up at Dell Children’s multiple times and every single time is exceptional service, care, and expertise. From housekeeping, food service, and child life specialists, to the amazing doctors and nurses. Recently we were in the ER and ICU. Our nurse and three different doctors in the ER were so kind, informative, and accommodating. I was so tired and don’t remember names, but our doctor in the ER was from Killeen and took the time to teach my teen all about how the heart works. The nurse in the ER took such good care of my kid and me! He helped me get some needed rest after an exhausting and scary night. Our nurse, Maya, in the ICU was supportive, patient, and helpful with every need we had. Dr. Hood was

We visited this hospital in December 2024 after our 1-week-old daughter's temperature dropped, and we could NOT have been more impressed by the nurses and doctors in the NICU. My wife and I stood completely in awe of their "all hands on deck" coordination, pragmatism, and heart. As noted in other reviews, Austin is lucky to have this clinical team. The food offering/cost is also fantastic. However, the administrative side has been a completely different story. Our deductible on this $52k visit was less than $200, as confirmed by our Explanation of Benefits (EOB). In late 2025, we received a bill for roughly $2,200, which we promptly paid under the faulty assumption that it was our legitimate liability. This week, we received yet another invoice for more than $11,000, which prompted us to

The care my child received at this pediatric hospital was truly exceptional. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel welcomed, supported, and reassured during a stressful time. Every nurse, doctor, specialist and department we encountered showed not only expertise, but genuine compassion and patience. The medical team took the time to explain everything clearly, answering all of our questions and making sure we understood our child’s treatment plan. They treated my child with kindness and respect, helping ease their fears and making the experience far more comfortable than we ever expected. It was clear that everyone there is dedicated to providing the highest level of care. I am incredibly grateful for the professionalism and heartfelt care we received. I would highly reco

My son had surgery and all the staff was absolutely amazing! Shout out to Doctor Nast and her surgical team for taking excellent care of my son! He said that everyone handled him so gently! Thank you for helping my 11 year old son to feel so comfortable. This is his second surgery at Dell children hospital anytime he needs to go to the hospital we drive all the way from Kyle per his request. You deserve more than a daisy reward. Keep on being kind with the littles and their families!

What to expect at a sleep study appointment
For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.
Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Dell Children's Medical Center Sleep Disorders Center
What does Dell Children's Medical Center Sleep Disorders Center do?
Dell Children's Medical Center Sleep Disorders Center is a sleep medicine clinic in Austin, TX that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.
Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Dell Children's Medical Center Sleep Disorders Center?
Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Dell Children's Medical Center Sleep Disorders Center directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.
How much does a sleep study cost at Dell Children's Medical Center Sleep Disorders Center?
Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.
Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?
Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.
How long does it take to get sleep study results?
Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.
Can I do the sleep study at home?
Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.
What should I bring to my appointment at Dell Children's Medical Center Sleep Disorders Center?
Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
