Have to give Stormy a special shout-out. Have had mild Sleep Apnea for years. And was referred by my craniofacial doctor. I am currently in CPAP trial. She's a great listener, and a great advocate. It is so hard to find a doctor or medical professional so enthusiastic and warm. She is helping me go through the process for DJS. I thought it would be harder to get a doctor to understand me and listen to my experiences - and she's been good for that since Day 1. I still have a little bit longer to go. But she is a great member of your team. The sleep study was not my favorite, but that staff was very kind too. And I don't put that as a reflection on CSMA, sleep studys just suck massively.

I recently brought my child in for a sleep study and wanted to recognize our Sleep Technician Lenny for the exceptional care he provided. From the moment we arrived, Lenny created a calm, welcoming environment and treated us with kindness and respect. Sleep studies can feel unfamiliar and vulnerable, but he took the time to explain things, check in often, and make sure we were comfortable throughout the experience. Lenny brought patience, understanding, and a reassuring presence that made a stressful experience feel manageable and even positive. Thank you, Lenny, for helping us feel calm and treating us with such genuine care.

I traveled from out of town for this in depth sleep study. Vanessa was above and beyond in making me feel comfortable and ready for my tests. I can definitely recommend Dr Simmons and the wonderful Austin location.

My daughter Jenny H. Is a new patient and so far we have had excellent care. Jenny was interview first with a new PA and I have forgotten her name but she was very througher. Then she met with Stormy and she gave us even more excellent information and said Jenny would need a EEG which they have done and now have an appointment for the sleep study. The front office is run by Christy and she has been the best I have had the pleasure to work with. She is very pleasant and has explained the procedures, insurance and calculating what the insurance will pay and our part. With the cost of healthcare this it is very important to have the figures so any family can make sure they can afford the test. Christy has done an excellent job of that and also telling us what needs to be paid at the time o

Was put on two medications that made my symptoms and sleep worse. (And the dispensing pharmacist gave me a brow raise when she asked what the meds were for.) I ended up switching providers since every interaction felt like a waste of time and money.

What to expect at a sleep study appointment
For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.
Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Comprehensive Sleep Medicine Associates
What does Comprehensive Sleep Medicine Associates do?
Comprehensive Sleep Medicine Associates is a sleep medicine clinic in Austin, TX that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.
Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Comprehensive Sleep Medicine Associates?
Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Comprehensive Sleep Medicine Associates directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.
How much does a sleep study cost at Comprehensive Sleep Medicine Associates?
Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.
Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?
Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.
How long does it take to get sleep study results?
Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.
Can I do the sleep study at home?
Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.
What should I bring to my appointment at Comprehensive Sleep Medicine Associates?
Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
