⭐ 0/5 — Extremely poor communication and an unacceptable experience with an elderly patient I am extremely disappointed with how my elderly aunt's sleep study was handled, especially considering that she does not speak English. The problems started with her first appointment. She was contacted and essentially told she had a sleep study in two days at 9 PM and not to be late, but she was not properly given the location or clear information about who had referred her. She was told the information would be emailed to her — except they did not even have her email address on file. She ultimately received a text with the information about few hours before the appointment, in English, despite the language barrier. I had to do my own research afterward to figure out who had referred her and wha

I recently brought my brother, who has Down syndrome, for a sleep study at this facility, and I cannot express enough how positive our experience was. Our technician, Regina, was exceptional. She was incredibly kind, patient, and attentive to both of our needs. She took the time to answer all our questions thoroughly and ensured we were at ease throughout the entire process. What truly stood out was her genuine care and dedication to making this experience as stress-free as possible for my brother. In addition to the outstanding care provided, they also accommodated me by offering a bed right next to my brother, which made a world of difference for both of our comfort Our experience here exceeded all expectations. I would wholeheartedly recommend this facility to anyone in need of a sleep

All I have to say is thank God I don't have a life threatening condition because this center does not care about your health. It takes them forever to schedule an appointment, to get you your results and to get you a machine. I hope they realize sleep disorders can be fatal because if that was case for me, I could have died in the 6+ months it takes for them to get me what I need. If you have the option to go somewhere else, don't walk, run. Doctors, please stop referring your patients here.

Harris or Hussein whatever the man who answered the phone is the most rude incompetent person. He answered the phone aggressively and starts running his mouth without letting you speak. If this is how they speak to someone just coming in for the first time go somewhere else. No human decency.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE place!! I went there and every time they sent me home with a sleep study machine, the following day when I came to return the machine they said “oh the machine is broken” or “oh it never recorded”. This happened 3 times. They charged me a $20 copay and never provided any service. Every time I called them to ask when I could pick up a new study they said “not today” or we will call you back. Long story short, I never got my sleep study done because they just scammed me of $20 and charged my insurance for no reason. Also, if you’re doing an overnight study at their location then FYI it’s not clean at all. AVOID AT ALL COST!!

What to expect at a sleep study appointment

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about City Sleep Center

What does City Sleep Center do?

City Sleep Center is a sleep medicine clinic in Astoria, NY that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at City Sleep Center?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact City Sleep Center directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at City Sleep Center?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at City Sleep Center?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
