I’m not reviewing the medical care here — I never received any. I’m reviewing the customer service and basic operations that prevented me from getting care. I arrived for a scheduled overnight sleep study and was turned away at the door. After hours, there is no reliable way to reach anyone. The office claims voicemail “goes to email and is checked,” but in my case the phone system simply hangs up rather than taking a message. So once the office closes, patients effectively have no way to communicate — even if they’re en route or standing outside the building. What made this worse wasn’t just the failed appointment — it was the follow-up. The office manager called afterward not to apologize and reschedule, but to defend the practice and insist that what my wife was told “wasn’t possible.

The front desk staff can be a bit brash, and the office is somewhat dated, but I visit this place for medical care, not for aesthetics or socializing. Let’s face it, everyone has good and bad days, and few people are thrilled at work these days. However, my 5-star rating is for Dr. Gupta’s diagnostic skills. He is truly one of the best doctors I’ve ever encountered. Having moved around a lot, I was accustomed to being treated like a number, but Dr. Gupta’s expertise and unwavering dedication to providing optimal treatment have been life-changing for me. My sleep issues were significantly impacting my life and career, but under his care, I’ve made remarkable progress, and I am deeply grateful.

My experience was terrible. We arrived at the Sleep Center at 2:45 for a 3:00 pm appointment. Filled in lots of paperwork and sat there for an hour waiting to be called. I asked the receptionist if there was a problem and when could I expect to be called. She had no idea. I enquired if it was going to take much longer I needed to cancel my appointment. I then asked to re-fund my co-pay and cancel the appointment. The face of a medical practice is often the receptionist and in this case the patient interaction was terrible. No explanation no resemblance of assistance. My recommendation is to look elsewhere for sleep care. For example, Comprehensive Sleep Care was much better.

Not impressed. The office is old. As soon as you step in the carpet smells really old. The doctor was nice but I’m not sure I trust him. I feel like they nickel and dime the insurance company. I had a sleep study. Then another was suggested for my mild sleep apnea so he knew how much oxygen I would need. I had to make another appointment to get results. I never went back to get the machine. My mom always said to trust your instincts. Mine don’t trust this office.

We scheduled an appointment which is very urgent for my partner's health. He got lost trying to find the place of business and called me when he realized he was late. I called asap, mind you it was only 10 minutes past the appointment time. The staff I spoke too, was incredibly rude and kept calling him a no show after only TEN minutes. I value people's time but things also happen and it was 10 minutes....we will definitely be taking our business elsewhere. Who wants to have a serious issue and deal with staff like this. I hope the Dr. is aware of how these people are running his office and costing him business.

What to expect at a sleep study appointment
For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.
Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Central Virginia Sleep Center
What does Central Virginia Sleep Center do?
Central Virginia Sleep Center is a sleep medicine clinic in Fredericksburg, VA that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.
Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Central Virginia Sleep Center?
Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Central Virginia Sleep Center directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.
How much does a sleep study cost at Central Virginia Sleep Center?
Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.
Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?
Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.
How long does it take to get sleep study results?
Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.
Can I do the sleep study at home?
Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.
What should I bring to my appointment at Central Virginia Sleep Center?
Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
