My daughter had an appointment with Eric Anderson today. He was absolutely amazing with her. He explained everything and made her very comfortable. She understood everything before we left. He referred her to have further testing and to see someone else about sleep therapy. I absolutely recommend him to anyone, especially younger people needing this service. Eric is top notch!!!

We had difficulty getting my mother scheduled for her study in the first place. They finally scheduled her for a holiday weekend (they did this not us) but the week before they tried to get her to reschedule. We had already made arrangements so they allowed us to keep the appointment. Confirmed this on a Wednesday. On Friday, day of drop off, they called and canceled her appointment. A few days later, they took it upon themselves to schedule for the following Sunday without verifying we could make arrangements to be there. She had already expressed concerns about but away from her routine and finding care for her dog overnight. This has been an unpleasant experience and completely opposite of the positive experience when I took my daughter several years ago.

All the stars in this review are for the wonderful staff. If I could only rate the staff, they would get five stars. I had a sleep study here at the Bronson sleep lab (not the take home version) and the two staff members who helped me were both so very wonderful. They were understanding, patient, kind and warm. They did their very best to make sure I was as comfortable as possible (though that's pretty difficult during a sleep study), both physically and mentally, and they were very respectful when placing all the wires and things on me. Now the main reason for my review and the lack of stars is to talk about the sleep study room. I was told over the phone it would be like a little hotel room, so I expected it to at least be a little comfortable. I wasn't expecting anything fancy, but I f

Great staff and Dr. Smeader listened to my concerns regarding symptoms I experienced, which she was spot-on with her suspicions I’ve suffered with for over a decade: that I have obstructive sleep apnea. Although the home sleep study confirmed I have a mild case of it, I suspect I still have a more moderate case and need a hospital sleep study, where more can be detected than what a home version is unable to do. Was told insurance will refuse to do another one, regardless of my insistence that retesting is necessary, especially if I need my CPAP adjusted.

I just finished my Sleep Study at Bronson Sleep Specialties. I didn't expect perfection, and I wasn't disappointed. First I'd like to say that Jeff the technician who ran my study was very good. He was professional and very caring. The only problems I had were with the institution. They do recommend that you bring everything with you that you would need for an overnight stay in a hotel. That is very good advice. This was not my first sleep study, I did one about 20 years ago at Borgess Hospital, and their poor performance is the reason I chose to go with Bronson this time. My problems were small but I think that some of them could be addressed by the hospital. The beds are very uncomfortable. The mattress so stiff that I got pains in my hips. Of course I expected all the wires would make

What to expect at a sleep study appointment

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Bronson Sleep Health

What does Bronson Sleep Health do?

Bronson Sleep Health is a sleep medicine clinic in Portage, MI that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Bronson Sleep Health?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Bronson Sleep Health directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at Bronson Sleep Health?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at Bronson Sleep Health?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
