Do not use this sleep center! Dr. Aaron is the only doctor in this place and he is completely useless. I was able to get an appointment right away compared to other sleep doctors. However, when I arrived for my initial consult, I quickly discovered that they overbook. I was seen over an hour after my original appointment time. Scheduled for a sleep test. Had a seizure during my sleep study and was taken to the ER. Nursing staff at the sleep center were great. Only plus of this place. Doctor never called me to see how I was doing or give me the results of my sleep study. Had to get the results through my primary care physician. When I did call and told the sleep center to get the doctor to do his job, he finally called me. Now trying to get my machine. This place sent over my info to the s

Terrible 😞! Would not recommend this place at all !! Filled all the paperwork out the night before getting to my appointment, I arrived at my appointment 3:30pm appointment time was 3:45pm check in with the receptionist give her my ID and insurance card and sat down and waited for 20 minutes then another receptionist came up to me and said my insurance was inactive which wasn't true cause I just use my insurance at another appointment previously the other day... Then the receptionist came back out and says oh your insurance was good and your set for the appointment that right there should have been a warning sign for me to turn around .. finally gets called back after another 15 minutes , room was not cleaned rug had all types of stains on the carpet and chair . Doctor never gave eye cont

As others said, they overbook, which causes you to wait well after your appointment time, almost an hour in my case. My appointment was a phone call, and likely was would be a lower priority if they had many people waiting at their office. But the doctor was nice and reviewed many different aspects of why i was seen.

Please do yourself a favor and do not go to this place if you need a sleep study done. They don’t tell you that there is no doctor at the facility only a nurse. They don’t tell you this until after you’ve had your study done then you have to wait almost 2 weeks for their contracted doctor to come in to sign off on the study. They only have a nurse who can treat you. I didn’t have a choice but to accept an appt with the nurse. Unfortunately, the nurse was in an accident on the day of my appointment so of course they called to reschedule. I expressed that I hope their nurse was ok but if she’s injured and they don’t know when/if she will be back, I’m also dealing with a serious health issue and they’ve already made me wait & continue to suffer for over 3 weeks. I started asking about what a

The staff here is great! It didn't take me long at all to get an appointment and be seen by the doctor. Both the doctor and staff addressed all of my concerns. The rooms for the actual sleep study are very clean and comfortable! I would definitely recommend American Sleep Medicine to anyone looking for a sleep study center. I give it 5 stars!

What to expect at a sleep study appointment

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about American Sleep Medicine Newark

What does American Sleep Medicine Newark do?

American Sleep Medicine Newark is a sleep medicine clinic in Newark, DE that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at American Sleep Medicine Newark?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact American Sleep Medicine Newark directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at American Sleep Medicine Newark?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at American Sleep Medicine Newark?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
