For the first time in my life after trying to previously receive care for something that severely impacts my life significantly daily but had worsen from dismissive care and negligence. I had an awful experience at the first hospital I was trying to receive care at and was dismissed and discharged without any type of option or any treatment to stabilize, with it impacting my health negatively worsening the situation and almost being in a more worse position after they tried to give me a medication I was allergic to in my chart, having to stop them before administering and advocate and asking them to look again as they said at first it wasn’t in my chart and then once they actually looked they saw it was indeed on my chart of a severe allergy to what they almost gave me. This facility will deny services to patients, even those with physical and mental issues, that prevent traveling for care. They won't even allow Ishpeming residents to have lab work or x-rays here if they feel they can deny you. A friend had billing issues and went to court. It was settled but immediately afterwards his dr started threatening to deny his meds, the manager refused to allow a change of dr and even blocked him from going to Negaunee. When he was persistant in expressing his needs they called the police because he returned a call, as he was told to do, and when he got upset, yet mind you never cussed at or threatened anyone, they denied him service. I've watched this friend's health decline. He used to be active, visiting others, going out to eat, hunted, fished, but, due to s

The ER at Bell hospital recently treated my 91 year old mother after a fall. She was brought there by ambulance. She needed 15 stitches in one of her knees. She is not incontinent but because she was incapacitated and had diarrhea she soiled herself. My sister had pants and underwear but they refused to clean her up and sent her home with soiled clothes. When she got home my sister and I got her cleaned up but then she passed out and was breathing very shallow so we had to call 911 a,second time. This time we made sure she was going to Marquette hospital. They admitted her and is on her 10th day there.

Everyone at Bell Hospital really took good care of me, especially Dr Verbridge and Dr. Provost. They took time to explain my diagnosis and what the treatment would be. The nurses in the emergency room and hospital were so kind and caring. They made my stay as pleasant as possible.

Went to Bell hospital last week to the ER.. I have POTS. I was having a flare up and needed an IV.. Dr. Shipkey (I really couldn't be bothered to spell his name right) was a sad excuse of an ER Doctor.. the rest of the staff was great so please excuse my bad review.. he sat across from me while I was in a hospital bed ( WHERE NO ONE WANTS TO BE) asking me questions and then interrupting me at least 7 different times. You were dismissive and absolutely rude and I watched you roll your eyes at me when I repeated myself after you interrupted me talking about my symptoms.. you were not busy.. there was no one else waiting.. you just couldn't be bothered. Hope you know that you have a reputation around town. Shame on you.

What to expect at a sleep study appointment
For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.
Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about UP Health System - Bell
What does UP Health System - Bell do?
UP Health System - Bell is a sleep medicine clinic in Ishpeming, MI that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.
Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at UP Health System - Bell?
Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact UP Health System - Bell directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.
How much does a sleep study cost at UP Health System - Bell?
Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.
Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?
Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.
How long does it take to get sleep study results?
Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.
Can I do the sleep study at home?
Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.
What should I bring to my appointment at UP Health System - Bell?
Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
