I've had so many negative experiences, haveing had numerous surgeries, this turned out to be a surprising experience. From walking in the door tooughout leaving was pleasant people involved. The nurses were great n the operating staff were comforting, calm, n explained everything thoroughly. Recovery room nurse made sure was kept comfortable n felt safe. Dr. Peterson is a kind n caring Dr. She is very good at her job which includes being personable n professional. Was very open n transparent about what could happen with the surgery. She said it with confidence n honesty. One thing she said was that she takes care of her patients the same way if they were her family. Definitely true. The surgery went well n have had an easy recovery. With all my experiences with dealing with my health this

I recently had surgery at Saint Francis hospital in Topeka. They did an excellent job. My surgeons were wonderful and the staff from the nurses clear down to the cleaning lady I couldn’t of asked for anybody better. The food I thought was very good. You can’t expect quality restaurant food at a hospital.I do not understand people complaining about hospital food. I thought it was very good and nourishing. my surgery was at 1:30. I was in the surgery operating room at 1:30. I think it’s a fantastic hospital and I will never go anywhere else.

I am always pleased with the staff and all the work they do. I will always, from the depth of my heart, be grateful for saving my mother and sisters lives. Both times was the most scared I've ever been. I am happy to be part of the family of UKHS, and will recommend them to everyone. Thank you all for all your hard work! With love from my family!

My husband is in the hospital following cancer surgery. The staff in the ICU was wonderful but the nurse he has on the floor is withholding his pain medication. He's supposed to have it every hour and it's been over 2 hours and she still won't bring him any. Meanwhile, his pain is progressively getting worse. She told him he didn't need it because his pain wasn't bad enough. His whole goal was to keep the pain managed so it didn't get bad. It's even in his orders.

What to expect at a sleep study appointment

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus Sleep Center

What does University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus Sleep Center do?

University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus Sleep Center is a sleep medicine clinic in Topeka, KS that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus Sleep Center?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus Sleep Center directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus Sleep Center?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus Sleep Center?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
