When my headache turned into a migraine that continued for weeks with no improvement, I knew something was wrong. My ears were blocked and ringing. The head pain was shooting down my neck into my shoulders and I felt like I had been hit in the jaw. Obviously, I was barely sleeping and none of my go to migraine medications would help with the pain. I spent most of my days lying in bed alternating ice and heat in hopes of some relief. After seeing multiple doctors, being treated for a sinus infection several times, having two scans, a physical therapy appointment and even a hearing test, I still had no answers. I wondered why no one could tell me what's wrong with me? I finally came across an ENT that suggested I see my dentist for possible TMJ. My dentist took one look at my scan and sent m

Updating my review: My paperwork and records were eventually provided, so that part has been resolved. However, the way I was treated throughout the process was disappointing. I paid a significant amount out of pocket and simply wanted to continue my care elsewhere. The communication and overall handling of the situation made an already stressful experience much harder than it needed to be. Patients deserve clear communication, respect, and support—especially when they’ve paid for services and are trying to move forward with their healthcare. I appreciate that the paperwork issue was fixed, but the customer service and professionalism did not match the level of care I expected. I hope this feedback helps improve how future patients are treated.

I have been routinely disappointed by the service here. While I respect the wealth of knowledge and expertise regarding TMJ related issues here, I feel there is consistently little to no empathy or effort from the doctor to genuinely understand my concerns and needs as a unique patient with unique needs. While on a 3 month treatment plan for lower jaw pain I was given day and night mouth guards to wear while sleeping and during the day to control clenching and pain. I met with the doctor on 3 to 4 week intervals to assess progress. The doctor rarely asked me directly how I was feeling or if my pain was getting better or worse. Instead of asking me how I was feeling she asked the nurse to tell her about me and all the nurse cared about was how I scored my pain on their 1-10 pain score measu

My experience with Dr.Billings have been excellent. He loves helping patients. My life has changed for the better thanks to his care. The staff is excellent as well. Everyone in the office is very caring. I encourage anyone that has TMJ issues like I had to come and see him. I was in tears when I first came into the office and I have a smile in my face because my life has changed for the better thanks to Dr. Billings.

I’ve had jaw pain for more than 15 years. Every doctor told me I couldn’t be helped. I was just about to give up when I found the Billings website, and thought to give them a try. Just in my first appointment, Dr. Billings did more for me than all the doctors from my past. I walked out of the office with tears of joy instead of tears of disappointment. I’m forever grateful for the entire staff at the Billings office, for the help, support and guidance over the past 4 months of my treatment. I’ve had so much progress already and I’m looking forward to getting 100% better. The world needs more doctors like Dr. Billings!

What to expect at a sleep study appointment
For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.
Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about TMJ & SLEEP THERAPY CENTRE OF NEW ORLEANS
What does TMJ & SLEEP THERAPY CENTRE OF NEW ORLEANS do?
TMJ & SLEEP THERAPY CENTRE OF NEW ORLEANS is a sleep medicine clinic in Metairie, LA that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.
Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at TMJ & SLEEP THERAPY CENTRE OF NEW ORLEANS?
Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact TMJ & SLEEP THERAPY CENTRE OF NEW ORLEANS directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.
How much does a sleep study cost at TMJ & SLEEP THERAPY CENTRE OF NEW ORLEANS?
Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.
Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?
Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.
How long does it take to get sleep study results?
Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.
Can I do the sleep study at home?
Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.
What should I bring to my appointment at TMJ & SLEEP THERAPY CENTRE OF NEW ORLEANS?
Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
