The other reviews that mention extremely poor communication are spot on. Getting an initial appointment took a lot of persistent effort on my end. I've never been able to reach someone on the phone - the only way to communicate appears to be their online portal. The responses are slow (if they respond at all), incomplete and often don't address my questions. After my initial consultation I was told that the office would be reaching out to schedule a sleep lab. This did not happen, I needed to call repeatedly, leave multiple messages, reach out via the portal, etc. When I did get a response I was told that there were no openings available, and they would reach out once their June bookings became available. A week into June I reached out again and again, only to be told that all bookings i

I was referred here in early February for a sleep study. What followed were three months of delays, unanswered calls, and a prescription incorrectly configured for the machine I purchased. The timeline tells the story. Multiple weeks to schedule the initial screening. Several more weeks to schedule the at-home study. Three weeks to receive results. I was told I had severe sleep apnea, with my health at risk. The doctor said a technician would contact me within two to three weeks to help select a machine. When my insurance declined the claim, I heard nothing for a full month. The practice routes everything through a portal and text system that does not receive replies. They have a voice assistant that takes messages for which no one responds. Reaching a live person required eight to

Erin Dame, PA was very good. The office employees are so nice, helpful, compassionate, and friendly. I couldn’t do a television because I ddidnt know how. I went into the south office and Monica set it up for me in a quiet room and it went fine. I thought that was very kind of her. They were great. I felt so comfortable with Erin, her knowledge and expertise. We now have a plan and I’m excited about it.

Save yourselves the headache and go anywhere else. The level of sheer incompetence and garbage customer service at this clinic is truly Olympic-tier. First of all, if you actually expect to be seen by Dr. Gauda, the supposed "specialist"—good luck with that. You will be immediately pawned off on some intern who, barely a minute into the appointment, will shove a generic solution in your face before even bothering to learn your name. After enduring what can only be described as telephone torture just trying to get a CPAP machine, they finally graced me with a response and booked me to start therapy. I waited an entire month for the machine, but it never arrived. I spent four straight days desperately trying to get a hold of the clinic, only to discover that the intern had sent my order to t

URGENT. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS PLACE OF YOU VALUE YOUR HEALTH! If you're looking for terrible service and the inability to get anything done, this is the place. After taking my money for an initial consultation, I could never get a human on the line or any follow up appointments. Just their stupid automated system. My doctor contacted them with a referral, then they didnt contact me until I reached out to my doctor again. Then they said they would reach out to schedule a follow up. Week passed, nothing. Then I left multiple messages with their AI assistant. Another week, and I still havent heard back. The only messages I get from them are bills, and you better believe those messages are on quick. Such a waste of time and money.

What to expect at a sleep study appointment

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Texas Sleep Medicine

What does Texas Sleep Medicine do?

Texas Sleep Medicine is a sleep medicine clinic in Austin, TX that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Texas Sleep Medicine?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Texas Sleep Medicine directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at Texas Sleep Medicine?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at Texas Sleep Medicine?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
