I was waiting to write a review because I kept hoping this would get better. I had a sleep study the third week in February. A week later, the office called and made me come in to get my diagnosis (that I do have OSA) and then told me that because of my weight, I needed a second study to set my pressure. They told me they had a new team managing scheduling so they would call me to schedule. It is now March 13 and I have never received a call to schedule. I have called multiple times, left messages, and submitted an appt request via the portal. The office called back to say the scheduling team would call me, but again they never did. Today I received a call about my "prescription" - apparently in the beginning of March, the doctor wrote a prescription for my pressure settings and now the pe

Unbelievably inadequate admin staff through the entire experience. I started this last October knowing that I had already met my deducible. I made an appointment on line and went in for my first visit. I was told I needed the sleep study and someone would contact me with my next instructions. No one did! When I contacted them, (multiple times before I had a response) they explained I had an appointment but no one communicated this to me. I went to the office to pick up the device for home testing, again poor communication. I stood in the hallway unable to reach anyone for half an hour. Finally I found another phone number and called. She explained she did not think I would make it into the building without a call. Still, no direction! They never contacted me with the results. I

Went in to Austin office in December 2020 and did sleep study. Never met with an actual doctor for results. Told I needed a CPAP and that since I met my deductible, it would be $25 copay for visit. 8 months later I get a call that I get a call insurance is having an issue with the claim. Told they will take care of it. Today, 16 months later, I am told that I have to pay over $600 for machine because I am not allowing insurance company internet access to the machine. Never a letter or bill or anything in the mail. Not a single piece of documentation saying the insurance company has to monitor the usage via the internet. Buyer beware. You don't get a doctor, and they do shady business. I would give zero stars if I could.

It's been a month since the sleep study, but they haven't called back. Left message and still waiting. They did send a bill. Talked to another friend, and the same thing happened to her. --- UPDATE: Originally left a 1-star because of the above administrative issues with getting sleep study results. The root cause was communication between their office and referring doctor's office (not sure and don't care which party caused delay.) I'm upgrading my review to 4-star because since then, the follow up care has been excellent, and they even identified something that other doctors may have missed. Quality of actual medical care trumps initial scheduling issue.

This office is horrible. What kind of doctor moves their practice and does not notify their patients? You are looking at the answer right here. It was bad enough I had my sleep study 12 weeks ago and I haven't gotten a call back. I've called and left messages with no response. I have since gone back to my PCP and he was extremely dissatisfied (obviously I am not the only one who has had the same complaints). My PCP said he has stopped referring patients here due to their incompetence. Thanks Texas Sleep Docs for a waste of my precious time and money.

What to expect at a sleep study appointment
For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.
Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Texas Sleep Docs
What does Texas Sleep Docs do?
Texas Sleep Docs is a sleep medicine clinic in Austin, TX that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.
Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Texas Sleep Docs?
Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Texas Sleep Docs directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.
How much does a sleep study cost at Texas Sleep Docs?
Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.
Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?
Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.
How long does it take to get sleep study results?
Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.
Can I do the sleep study at home?
Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.
What should I bring to my appointment at Texas Sleep Docs?
Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
