Update: I've only been going there since Oct. 2025 and they already sent me a letter about wanting full payment on my bill. Good luck with that. I always pay on it every month and by the due date. I'm going to consult with my attorney about this as it's not right they're doing that. I guess if you want a good doctor this would be the place but if you want the stress of the terrible billing and administration then you'll want to reconsider. The other clinics and hospitals we used to go to never tried to threaten us with paying the full billl in less then a year and didn't have a timeline for that matter. As long as you pay something every month then it's fine. I like our primary care doctor but I would give the administration a zero. I wasn't told about the cash lab. Never heard of it until

They have top notch doctors here. Dr. Steckelberg literally saved my life a few years back. But their billing department is absolutely TERRIBLE! For over a year now they've been trying to bill me $1000 for a colonoscopy which was supposed to be covered 100% by my insurance. The insurance company keeps telling me that the hospital is billing it incorrectly, but the hospital doesn't seem to be able to do it right. EDIT: I made the mistake of continuing to see Dr. Steckelberg. He ordered X-rays to check on a lump. The tests and everything went fine, and it was benign, thankfully. But now I've just received a bill for over $500 for the X-rays. My insurance should have covered these tests 100%. Once again their billing department is trying to screw me over. Well, that's it. We switched over from another healthcare facility several years ago and have no regrets about switching to Syracuse Area Health. All of the members of my family have had great appointments with their health care providers and with their specialty clinics and physicians. The nurses have also been great to work with. I've always felt heard in my personal appointments. Their office staff and schedulers have gone out of their way to be kind and help us with scheduling. When we have billing questions, they have been able to answer them and help us.

I've been going to doctors with complaints of symptoms for 15 years and they all do a simple lab and say "labs came back fine" I felt like I was just a box on a to do list that got checked off. "My responsibility is done here" I think I went to Doctor Bain 2x and on the second visit he had answers for me. I'd given up hope to feel better but he LISTENED, did not assume, and was empathetic and supportive but like ACTUALLY! Not that fake customer service voice with the right vernacular. Honest, if he ever leaves the area, I will follow him to wherever he practices. it's freeing to not have to "prove" anything because "your symptoms don't line up with lab results" and just be heard.

What to expect at a sleep study appointment
For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.
Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Syracuse Area Health
What does Syracuse Area Health do?
Syracuse Area Health is a sleep medicine clinic in Syracuse, NE that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.
Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Syracuse Area Health?
Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Syracuse Area Health directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.
How much does a sleep study cost at Syracuse Area Health?
Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.
Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?
Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.
How long does it take to get sleep study results?
Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.
Can I do the sleep study at home?
Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.
What should I bring to my appointment at Syracuse Area Health?
Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
