Went for imaging to diagnose a blood clot, radiology people there were amazing. Got sent to the ER, there didn't seem to be a lot of communication as I had to explain to several different people why I was there, who sent me, yes I already had an ultrasound and more, they were nice though. I was prescribed and released with a prescription. There were no pharmacies that had this prescription in stock, and after being told how important it was to get on it as blood clots can travel through the body, end up in the lungs or heart I was concerned. After a few hours of trying to find a pharmacy that had it In went back to the ER to ask about options and if I could get a paper prescription that I could take elsewhere if I found a pharmacy that had it. The man that came out to talk to me was not

My kiddo hit his head and needed a couple of staples. The entire ER staff was extremely quick and efficient; I wouldn't say we were there for more than 45 minutes. The nurses immediately put my son at ease, and were all very kind and professional. He couldn't stop raving about how nice the provider was after we left. The ER is never a fun place to visit, but this was the smoothest trip we've ever taken there by far.

I had to visit the hospital while staying in Bryson City. Where I live, the hospital is not somewhere you want to go because you will deal with hours and hours of waiting and then the staff is known to be incredibly rude. Being on vacation and away from home, the last thing I wanted to do was spend hours in the hospital, but I felt bad enough I had to suck it up. Well I was shocked when I walked in and didn't even get to sit down before the nurse was calling me back. Then the doctor was in within only a few minutes. Everyone treated me and my children so kindly and was very understanding and listened well. Dr. Engall (I believe his name was) was phenomenal and so kind. My local hospital could learn a thing or two from them. We were on our way within 50 minutes and I was already feeling muc

We had to visit the ER on 7/10/25 while on vacation. My son has cut his finger pretty significantly and needed stitches. From the time we walked in the doors to the time we left, everything was great. The front desk lady was super sweet, the CNA that took us back right away was very kind. The nurse that came in was knowledgeable and got the ball rolling for x-rays and the dr to come in. Michael, the PA, came in and made my son feel very comfortable, where he could, and was great with him while doing his stitches. My son was nervous about everything, but when we left, he felt a lot better. Overall, we had a great experience at this ER and appreciate the great health care that was given.

What to expect at a sleep study appointment
For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.
Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Swain Community Hospital - Sleep Center
What does Swain Community Hospital - Sleep Center do?
Swain Community Hospital - Sleep Center is a sleep medicine clinic in Bryson City, NC that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.
Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Swain Community Hospital - Sleep Center?
Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Swain Community Hospital - Sleep Center directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.
How much does a sleep study cost at Swain Community Hospital - Sleep Center?
Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.
Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?
Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.
How long does it take to get sleep study results?
Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.
Can I do the sleep study at home?
Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.
What should I bring to my appointment at Swain Community Hospital - Sleep Center?
Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
