i was referred here after months of insomnia. during my initial consult, this place refused a sleep study because "insomnia goes away on its own. this is bipolar disorder. see a psychiatrist" .... so, it ended up being multiple sclerosis causing the sleep disturbance. i'm not sure what a sleep study would've done to help diagnose this, but the guy doing my consultation was wrong regardless. don't listen to these people. get a 2nd opinion

I had a sleep study on 9/12. When meeting with Dr to review the results she said it wasn't the correct one and had another done on 12/16/2022. 3 times I've attempted to get St Luke's to fax the results to the Medicare provider to get my replacement CPAP. They never sent the correct information so I've been without a machine since mine broke on 5/8/2022. At this point I give up and have no hope of getting a replacement machine. I previously had a study and machine through LVHN and had a machine within a week of the sleep study.

Had a consultation appt last week and setup an appt for a sleep study about 3 weeks after that. They called me the next morning and said they had an opening for that night. I jumped on it. Technician was great and made the experience as comfortable as possible. I had an appt scheduled for almost 2 months later to meet with the doctor. They called me 2 days later and said they will get me in earlier. Was able to get an appointment next week for cpap machine setup and meeting with the doctor. They were very accommodating. Looking forward to my appt next week.

My wife was given here life back after They finally diagnosed her severe neurological disorder- but once our neurologist retired- the nursing staff and new doctor changed his treatment plan and took her off all her meds. Flipping our life upside down. When a doctor retires it’s illegal and called patient abandonment- to so unethically do this.

What a complete and utter clown show. Make sure you confirm your appointment a million times.... Every day until said day. They will lose your appointment. Even if you pay out of pocket for it. ☺️ Probably best to choose someone else if you need a sleep study. Complete garbage.

What to expect at a sleep study appointment
For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.
Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about St. Luke's Sleep Disorders Center
What does St. Luke's Sleep Disorders Center do?
St. Luke's Sleep Disorders Center is a sleep medicine clinic in Allentown, PA that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.
Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at St. Luke's Sleep Disorders Center?
Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact St. Luke's Sleep Disorders Center directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.
How much does a sleep study cost at St. Luke's Sleep Disorders Center?
Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.
Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?
Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.
How long does it take to get sleep study results?
Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.
Can I do the sleep study at home?
Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.
What should I bring to my appointment at St. Luke's Sleep Disorders Center?
Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
