I came to the ophthalmology department as an emergency patient. They were very busy with patients waiting and I was in a lot of pain and needed relief. I had no appointment, was definitely not expected to be the first to be seen, however, the receptionist (Kelly) was absolutely amazing in getting a tech to help me and make the most of getting me in with a Doctor. I was so impressed with the way this team handled my desperate need for relief. Diagnosed with a corneal tear…treated with exceptional care and I’m so grateful the amazing Doctors (Wagner & Schaab) and the great care and concern from the tech’s every single time I was there. I was checked on every few days and I truly felt the care and concern from this team and getting me back to normal. Thank you so, so very much!

Had some x-rays done at my local clinic and was expecting to get results within a day or two. Got message back saying they are understaffed with radiologists and it cold take up to 10 days to get results. This is unacceptable care for patients that are experiencing pain and need appropriate management. Thank God I can go anywhere for care, because it surely will not be SSM Health Monroe Clinic anymore. My veterinarian provides better care to my dog. My PCP by the way is awesome, too bad he has to work in such an inept organization.

From showing up at the emergency entrance up to discharge, my experience was truly remarkable. Everyone I dealt with was professional, detailed and kind to boot. I was in tremendous pain from 2 large kidney stones one of which had blocked the exit from the left kidney. Dr Moore the Urologist had scheduled the day off but came in anyway (along with his team) to address my issue. I couldn't be more satisfied with everyone along the way and highly recommend SSM Monroe Hospital.

Recently visited the Monroe Hospital ER and had a wonderful experience. I didn’t have to wait long at all, granted the waiting room was empty. The staff was so very kind. I was visibly upset as the emergency was pregnancy related, and everyone from the ER receptionist to the nurse and doctor were so calm and comforting. My nurse, Carol, took very good care of me and was very attentive. Dr. Mark Hovland was my physician and I couldn’t have asked for a better provider. He came to our room very quickly after the nurse finished with her initial assessment and did the ultrasound right away. He explained everything very clearly and made sure we didn’t have any questions. They ran all the tests so quickly and kept me very comfortable. Luckily everything came out good, and we were out in under 3 h

What to expect at a sleep study appointment
For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.
Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about SSM Health Monroe Clinic Hospital
What does SSM Health Monroe Clinic Hospital do?
SSM Health Monroe Clinic Hospital is a sleep medicine clinic in Monroe, WI that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.
Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at SSM Health Monroe Clinic Hospital?
Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact SSM Health Monroe Clinic Hospital directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.
How much does a sleep study cost at SSM Health Monroe Clinic Hospital?
Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.
Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?
Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.
How long does it take to get sleep study results?
Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.
Can I do the sleep study at home?
Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.
What should I bring to my appointment at SSM Health Monroe Clinic Hospital?
Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
