My son was sent here from urgent care because he had a swollen gland on his right side and his face got swollen. Urgent care said he needed an ultrasound. As soon as we arrived to South Shore I was impressed by how fast we went into the room. My son has a high tolerance for pain and it seems like I had to lie to have received better care. There were children in and out vomiting that got treated before us when we walked in first. The swelling was getting larger and hot to the touch. What started as something small last night, progressively got worse. Despite this, we saw a nurse who came and just wanted to issue Tylenol in the meantime, I politely declined because he wasn't feeling pain to the touch we just wanted to get the ultrasound as advised. Next, the doctor came in and said he has a

I had to bring my son into the ER for an injury and it was like a well oiled machine. Well structured, moved along quickly. Communication throughout the entire visit was great. We knew what to expect and when. The staff was friendly and we interacted with at least six different staff member. We stopped in the cafeteria before leaving and It was clean, fresh and well organized. I had my twins there 14 years ago and that was an extremely positive experience during a very scary time. They took very care of me and the babies.

He was cared for by many different nurses and Drs. Their care and concern was so comforting. He had round the clock care and in a few days was able to Go home with care and follow ups all planned out. Thank you to a great team effect !! Everyone on staff including hospital support workers were so kind and thoughtful. Thanks to all. Pat Belmarsh

First Do No Harm South Shore Hospital in Weymouth Massachusetts must learn and remember the first and most sacred rule in medicine – First Do No Harm: On a cold morning on December 2, 2024, at 6:00AM in the morning, I brought my one and only sibling to South Shore Hospital for very important and much-awaited surgery. He was using his walker and walked though the revolving door entrance to the main lobby. As he walked through, the door malfunctioned and grabbed his arm, squashing it against the side of the frame and the hydraulically moving door panel. This was witnessed by the SSH personnel at the front desk who immediately summoned security personnel. They were both very helpful and directed us to go straight to the ER for treatment. They BOTH relayed that the door had been a consistent p

What to expect at a sleep study appointment

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about South Shore Hospital Sleep Center

What does South Shore Hospital Sleep Center do?

South Shore Hospital Sleep Center is a sleep medicine clinic in South Weymouth, MA that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at South Shore Hospital Sleep Center?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact South Shore Hospital Sleep Center directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at South Shore Hospital Sleep Center?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at South Shore Hospital Sleep Center?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
