My experience with this sleep study center was extremely disappointing. The sleep study itself was very uncomfortable, and I barely slept for what felt like an hour, yet I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. What bothered me most was my interaction with the CPAP doctor. I explained that the machine pressure felt too strong and that it seemed to be forcing air into my stomach, causing discomfort. I felt dismissed when I was simply told to take Gas-X for the issue. I also expressed that I was struggling with the CPAP machine and did not feel comfortable with it. During that conversation, I felt I was spoken to in a very insensitive and unprofessional way. I was told that if I did not use the machine I could die from a stroke or heart attack, and I was also told that there was no need to

The lack of empathy at this office is honestly shocking. I experienced a medical emergency with my dog, who was having seizures, and needed to cancel my appointment. When I called to explain the situation, I was told I would still be charged $250. I spoke to the night technician that then called me back immediately to tell me that she spoke to the manager and informed me i would be charged for the cancellation regardless of the situation of was experiencing with my dog. There was no understanding or compassion whatsoever. Beyond that, the entire scheduling and authorization process was extremely disorganized. My first appointment had to be rescheduled because they notified me just one day prior that my authorization hadn't been approved. I was then forced to go back and forth between my P

If I have the option to rate “0” to this location I would do it. I am a current a patient of this office and I had the most unprofessional approach from JOSUE today. While I was asking to speak with the office manager for the second time regarding an issue, JOSUE refused to transfer me or leave a message to the office manager and decided to raise his voice to me and HANG UP the phone. Unfortunately when I called the first time over 6 days ago and spoke with JOSUE as well, I had similar scenario he started arguing with me (patient) that I had to ask to speak with the manager. It is obvious that he never send the message to the office manager. If the Doctor of this office reads this review, the office structure need to be revised and look for ways to monitor specially the staff that answer

What to expect at a sleep study appointment

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Sleep Medicine Specialists of South Florida, PA

What does Sleep Medicine Specialists of South Florida, PA do?

Sleep Medicine Specialists of South Florida, PA is a sleep medicine clinic in Miami, FL that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Sleep Medicine Specialists of South Florida, PA?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Sleep Medicine Specialists of South Florida, PA directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at Sleep Medicine Specialists of South Florida, PA?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at Sleep Medicine Specialists of South Florida, PA?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
