Dr. Carmel was a wonderful and knowledgeable Phtsicisn for the short period of time that he treated me. I felt like he really listened to me when he recommended or chose a treatment. And his Clinic Sraff are all amazing and very friendly, attentive and work well together to care for their patients. Especially the Front Desk Receptionist, Michelle, I think was her name.

The Pulmonary, Allergy and Sleep Center of Augusta, I have been seen by P.A. Julie Buird. She has shown patience, empathy and a wealth of competence with each encounter. Also worth mentioning the Tech that conducted my overnight sleep study was hands down the best i have ever dealt with, sorry I don't recall his name. Yes I did have a bit of a wait, maybe 40 minutes. I see this as a result of the prior patients not being rushed. I see this as a positive. Veterans, after you are seen you may need to remind the nice lady working in Community Care at the V.A. that she needs to request your records.

I brought my mother to see Dr Joseph when some nodules were found in her lungs. The staff was amazing and gave us an appointment very quickly. They also made us feel welcome and comfortable. They were both friendly and professional. Dr Joseph was amazing and was very compassionate. He discussed everything in detail and really took the time to answer all of our questions and make us feel at ease. I highly recommend this doctor!

Sleep study was performed. Discussed results with the PA. She stated she was going to submit an order for me to get another CPAP machine. Medicare rejected request because my current CPAP is only 3 years old. PA called me back to explain this to me. She said she was going to call a place in Aiken for me to take my machine to get the air pressure increased 6-16. Took my machine to Aiken the came out to the lobby took my machine, walked to another room, turned around and walked back without changing in pressure. Then she said she was referring me to CPAP express. Called CPAP express. Davis said no order submitted by doctor. Can’t get in touch with PA. No one answering phones or calling me back.

What to expect at a sleep study appointment

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Pulmonary, Allergy and Sleep Center of Augusta

What does Pulmonary, Allergy and Sleep Center of Augusta do?

Pulmonary, Allergy and Sleep Center of Augusta is a sleep medicine clinic in Augusta, GA that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Pulmonary, Allergy and Sleep Center of Augusta?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Pulmonary, Allergy and Sleep Center of Augusta directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at Pulmonary, Allergy and Sleep Center of Augusta?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at Pulmonary, Allergy and Sleep Center of Augusta?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
