Went into labor and had our son here at Promedica! The entire L&D team were phenomenal. Super helpful, compassionate, and very quick to make sure we were all taken care of. Dr Cherfan delivered our son and we couldn't be happier with the entire experience! We loved every nurse, but special shout out to Sandy in labor and delivery for making the experience extra special. It was nice delivering here because it was a very personalized experience, has very nice room views, and wasn't as "congested" as a big hospital usually is! Highly recommend coming here for all OB care and delivery. Thank you everyone. ♥️

I have been here numerous times but it was my first time being admitted. It was on Easter and most of us in the ER were waiting for a bed upstairs. It was around a 22 hour wait but a bed is a bed when you're sick. They took care of me and I have no complaints. Their menu allowed you to basically order whatever you wanted whenever you wanted it and the food was 👍

I really wish I could give this place a 0. It doesn't deserve to be called a hospital. They dropped the ball with my dad today causing more of a problem then when he came in. They have constantly dropped the ball with my sister and her pulmonary fibrosis. Even talking about her in the hallway right outside her room! This place is a joke. The staff nurses doctors could care less about their patients. They discharge when they shouldn't and can't decide on a correct diagnosis. They should have never gotten rid of herrick hospital or bixby.

Overall - it is a very good hospital. I've had the opportunity to compare notes between a bigger university hospital and this one. Both are good. Looking back over the course of the last few years and dealing with both Promedica and unnamed Uni hospital - if I had to do some things over and go with Promedica - I would have gone with Promedica. I can't help but think that sometimes we forget that doctors and nurses are people first and are genuinely doing their best. I've wondered several times in the last year if there's a way to send them a pizza party? lol But woke up this am and realized that just leaving a review that they can see might be useful. At every step of the way that we have dealt with the hospital itself in the last year (multiple times for multiple reasons) it has been ju

They had informed me that it was very important that I spent the night, so they can do an MRI in the morning. MRI took place 1:20 range in the afternoon, and by the time I forced them to release me, they still had no idea for that to be reported. Many of the staff were amazing, but shamefully the time spent there was not good.

For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital

What does ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital do?

ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital is a sleep medicine clinic in Adrian, MI that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
