I came in 4.5 cm dilated on Sep 1st, 2025 at 4am (Labor Day, ironic). I needed time to process and not be completely negative about the situation. I had asked for nitrous as soon as I got there, it never got given to me. Went into MyChart, says I never sign the forms but they were never brought to me either. The nurses sucked and didn’t listen to me or my husband (it said to on my birth plan). She literally yelled at him after he’d been helping me through labor all by ourselves, calling for help telling them there’s heavy bleeding and we got told over the phone that “I’m fine”. This nurse also said it would be her last birth before becoming a dula, I pray for the moms in her care. Mine got placed while I was at 8cm bc they didn’t check me immediately before. Mine and baby’s heart rate drop

The pre-op instructions were clear and easy to follow. The receptionist who checked me in was so kind and it was very easy to check in. The pre-op nurse did everything to get me ready for the surgery while being supportive and friendly. Dr Chandler did an excellent job! He explained everything and then he just did it perfectly. The post-op nurse was wonderful and kept waking me up telling me to breathe. I had a great experience. Minimal pain and the staff took care of me very well.

The star rating was significantly impacted by one security person's behavior. Nursing, information desk personnel, other security officers were all amazing and incredibly helpful and kind. This one person impacted our family's entire visit. My family recently visited the hospital after the birth of a new baby, and our experience with one security officer was completely unacceptable. My daughter had just turned 18 a few days earlier and did not yet have a photo ID. I had my own ID, explained that I was her mother, and offered multiple ways to verify our identities, including contacting hospital managers who know me. Instead of calmly explaining the policy or helping us find a reasonable solution, the officer was rude, dismissive, argumentative, and laughed when I said I was going to conta

I'm a nurse. I used to be an ED nurse. I have had to go to emergency rooms in different places I've lived or visited over the years for various reasons including CHoP in Philly and Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn. This is the single worst ED visit I have ever had. I came in, pregnant, with palpitations and chest pressure. Initially I went to the OB ED where I sat for over an hour and a half before someone decided I should go to the regular ED since they can't do anything about cardiac issues up there. I went down to the ED where I was quickly given an EKG and this is when the wheels fell off. They had ordered a chest X-RAY instead of an echo, which didn't set off alarm bells for me. They told me I could speak with the provider about it after I expressed discomfort with a CXR while pregna

What to expect at a sleep study appointment

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center

What does Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center do?

Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center is a sleep medicine clinic in Winston-Salem, NC that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
