This team is awesome. Here you may find one of the greatest MAs I've ever encountered in my 40+ years on earth. Colin is incredible. His energy, smile, and work ethic is superb and if I could clone him and put one of him in every clinic I would. Great job!

NSI’s Louisiana location was great! Checking in was always easy and my provider and all staff were always friendly and took care of my needs at all times. 10/10 experience each time I went in. There were only major issues when it came to scheduling my procedure to have my nasal polyps removed. It was canceled twice before, either the week before or the day before by Dr. Schemdies for medical emergencies. The third time was with a different doctor, Dr.King. I’m not entirely sure if he is even associated with NSI and if he is, it is not with the louisiana location. On the third rescheduling of my procedure, Everything was going as planned. I arrived at the hospital early and was checked in and was even in a gown, a cap, and had an IV in my arm when the surgeon and the office was calling me

Overall very good. PA Hannah Carston, who is a delight to talk to, did a great job of going over recent CT scan of my sinuses and turbinates, and generously, patiently and cheerfully answered all of my questions. MA Mikey seemed aloof and difficult, but she assured me he’s usually very well liked by patients. The one star off is bc Mikey seemed to only give me the least possible helpful answers to questions, and i don’t recall him introducing himself though i might have missed him doing so.

The check-in was easy and the receptionist was pleasant. The tech who did my intake was pleasant and informative. He also administered lidocaine when the provider (Hannah) determined I would need a sinuscope. He was very gentle. Hannah saw me and was very receptive to capturing all the details of my health history related to my visit. She performed a thorough exam and the sinuscopy, explaining everything every step of the way. She gave me recommendations for OTC meds and referred me for further radiology examination. She was gentle and made me feel she might be able to help with the conditions that prompted the visit.

I got a septoplasty through NSI and Dr. Knight, and was able to navigate the process quickly and easily. The people on the phone made appointments that fit my schedule. I felt safe since I was seen by the same Physician Assistant- Hannah Karsten and Medical Assistant- Mikey, before and after the procedure. I can now breathe better and don't have to go back to NSI, but if I did I know I'm in good hands

What to expect at a sleep study appointment
For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.
Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about National Sinus Institute
What does National Sinus Institute do?
National Sinus Institute is a sleep medicine clinic in Albuquerque, NM that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.
Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at National Sinus Institute?
Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact National Sinus Institute directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.
How much does a sleep study cost at National Sinus Institute?
Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.
Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?
Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.
How long does it take to get sleep study results?
Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.
Can I do the sleep study at home?
Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.
What should I bring to my appointment at National Sinus Institute?
Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
