We were traveling home from the Cleveland clinic after my husband’s heart procedure and we were staying at an air b and b. He had a heart attack and took an ambulance to Firelands. The care he received was incredible!! From the cardiologists to the nurses, he felt cared for and safe. We spent 6 days in the hospital before traveling home to Kansas. Like most locals, you don’t know what you have until you need it or it’s gone. You have incredible staff and caring people. They literally did every they could to make it less scary and the care he received saved his life. We are forever grateful.

My husband went in about 3 weeks ago for extreme diarrhea. Having only one kidney he is at risk of causing damage when dehydration sets in. The ER was fine, but it was pretty awful on the 4th floor. The social worker spoke to us like he was dying (yes he had stage 4 cancer but he was there to get hydration). Then the nurses were unhappy that he was on top of his medication schedule and called difficult for wanting to take his medication on time. They didn’t listen, they didn’t care. Twice they tried to get him to take barium for a CT they did not ever discuss what for. Well, he can’t have barium because he has one kidney. The nurse did not appear in appreciate him refusing a CT, and gave him attitude when he said he can’t take barium. If they can’t have the courtesy of exp

Waited 4 hours. After 4 hours, and no one was coming to give me my test that I needed, and I was told the test could take hours to come back.. I had to leave.I was starting to get so sick from hunger and I was in so much pain and since my test results still haven't came in, they couldn't give me anything. So I had to check myself out before even being diagnosed. In a town as nice as this one is shocking to have such a terrible hospital. And the room they brought me into , had dry blood all over the sheets , disgusting. People in this town deserve better.Thank God I don't live here and I was just on business.

0 STARS!! Absolutely horrible administration! They are completely and utterly incompetent! I brought my daughter in to the ER for an injury. She gave them her insurance card, which is in her mother and step dad's name. The stupid hospital billed me for their $150 copay. Not my insurance, not my copay. Pretty simple concept. I've been trying to get this rectified for several months to no avail. I went up the chain of command and spoke to the head of the hospital billing. I was told since I brought my daughter in, I was responsible for the copay. I was also told that if the coach brought her, the coach would have been responsible, or they would have reached out to the cardholder. So why didn't they do that? Legally, if your name isn't attached to the insurance, you can't be held responsible

Well I just got a Provider Transition letter from Dr Justin Kelly.( So happy to hear he is leaving!! ) He treated me like I was a mentally challenged person, by continually showing me how my knees are close to bone on bone with my X-rays. I already knew that!! Then when I told him I fell on my Rt knee in the Theater…. He jokes and says to me .. “What Movie did you go see?” Ha ha!! My MRI showed that I had fluid on my knee. So when I saw he was not going to help me , I started to get my stuff together, he says to Me, “I am not going to Aspirate your Knee.” Have a Happy Thanksgiving, “ And leaves! Dr. DeWild sent me to him to do just that! I had it done by Dr Kolczun, and he treated me with kindness and respect! Merita Wright

What to expect at a sleep study appointment

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Firelands Regional Medical Center

What does Firelands Regional Medical Center do?

Firelands Regional Medical Center is a sleep medicine clinic in Sandusky, OH that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Firelands Regional Medical Center?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Firelands Regional Medical Center directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at Firelands Regional Medical Center?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at Firelands Regional Medical Center?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
