I don’t usually like to leave really bad reviews for doctor’s offices, but I have to make an exception for this one. Unfortunately, there is only one receptionist who is also the nurse in this practice. This person is overworked and clearly overwhelmed. There’s been so many mistakes the office has made ranging from not updating my insurance info even though I gave them my updated card which resulted in me getting billed as if I didn’t have insurance. I had to text the nurse/receptionist a photo of my license and insurance card, which still concerns me for security reasons. During my appointment, the nurse had to stop her triage of me multiple times to answer the phone and schedule appointments. Even worse, I’ve been trying to get a new prescription for months now from Dr. Dahkeel, but eith

I would NEVER recommend Dr. Dakheel!! Went to him for years. Stopped due to hours of wait time. Started back as referred by my urologist. After waiting for an appt for 2 hrs I was referred to his son inlaw for treatment of upper right pain under my ribs. This treatment was sending me to several gastro doctors, all with the same recommendation "up antacid meds" plus I committed to exploratory surgery to check liver, gallbladder etc with no substantial findings. I returned back to Dr Dakheel and at one visit he told me that he didn't feel i cared about my health and could no longer treat me. I dealt with that abdominal pain for 7 years until it got so bad I found a doctor that listened and sent me for Hida Scan. I suffered from gallbladder desease, no stones. Gallbladder was dead! Zero communication from this office. One overworked staff person. Voice mail says do not leave a voice mail, we don't check it. Call back. My sleep study was end of July. Results were supposed to be in a week. I didn't get any results until end of August and Dr. seemed surprised he hadn't seen me! I had to pursue them to get my results. Then I was supposed to have a second study. 3-4 weeks went by with the sleep lab saying they had no order from the doc, with the doc office saying they had sent it. Finally the nice sleep lab person hunted down the staff person on a Friday (when the office was closed) and FINALLY got my order. I've left a message for the doc to call me back and haven't heard two days later. I'm switching doctors.

The worst experience ever from a doctors office. I was diagnosed in October 2021 for sleep apnea an d was told that his staff will send the prescription to a vendor for a CPAP machine. I have not recieved any machine since then. I have called over 15 times to get answers and kept being fed a number of excuses. Called and left messages and never got a call back nor a follow up from the doctor. Like i said. This is the worst experience ever. They should just close this [ractice!!!!

Trying to get a script for a new CPAP machine as my current is broken. Haven't been able to get a response for over a year. Nobody answers the phone, nor is anyone at the desk during business hours. Its apparent that this outfit is only interested in billing - not interested in providing care or support afterwards. The good news is I found that filing complaints can happen (1) with your insurance company, (2) the Maryland Board of Physicians, (3) The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB), and (4) non profits like mypatientrights.org.

What to expect at a sleep study appointment

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Dr. Riad Dakheel

What does Dr. Riad Dakheel do?

Dr. Riad Dakheel is a sleep medicine clinic in Bowie, MD that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Dr. Riad Dakheel?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Dr. Riad Dakheel directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at Dr. Riad Dakheel?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at Dr. Riad Dakheel?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
