I was concerned about a worsening issue with my eye and was seeking some sort of treatment prior to the weekend. I spoke with the office staff about the condition hoping they might be able to squeeze me in (It was already midmorning on Friday). Dr. Charlotte Thompson took the time to call me back personally within the hour and was kind enough to discuss the issue, alleviate my concerns, and provide a management plan moving forward. As if this wasn't already far more than I expected, she refused to let me pay for the consultation and insisted she was simply happy that she could help. I could not be more impressed or grateful! A stark contrast to the usual corporate healthcare experience.

I first saw Dr Charlotte Thompson on September 17th for a consultation on doing a closure after Moh's surgery for basal cell carcinoma. I will admit that the office could definitely use a course in time management it was very frustrating the first time I was in the office it took 4 hours before I got out of there. However when I did see Dr Thompson she was amazing, kind, professional kind patient and answered every question I had and I had many about the surgery she would perform. When the appointment for my surgery was scheduled my medical assistant was Mallory and she was amazing. She returned all my calls and answered every question I had and was very good in reassuring me about the procedure itself, scheduling times that were convenient for me t due to the long distance I had to com

My husband and I were just there yesterday. Yes there is a Wait that just tells me Dr Charlotte Thompson takes her time with each of her patients. My husband has dementia and cannot always understand or find the words to say what letter is on the eye chart. She and her staff were awesome and so kind to him. Dr. C. Thompson found alternative ways for him so she can get the info she needed. She was very encouraging so he would relax. It helped me also to relax. Thank you for all your kindness.

Drove two hours for a morning appointment with Dr. Scott Thompson. Upon arrival my appointment had been rescheduled without notifying me and I had to drive back without being seen.

We unfortunately did not have a good experience with Dr. Thompson. We asked her not to dilate our son's eyes as he has had eye exams for years without the drops. We could tell she was very weird about it, and proceeded with his eye exam. She was done in like 10 minutes. He usually waswith his previous ophthalmologist for about an hour. Of no surprise his glasses came in completely wrong. When we called her, she explained she couldn't give him an accurate script without dilating his eyes. Even though none of this was explained at the appointment. She knew the prescription was inaccurate and didnt let us know until after he received his glasses. We went to another location and had to pay out of pocket for an exam which came back entirely different from hers. I do not recommend her at all. If

For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.

Frequently asked questions about Carolina Eye Ear Nose & Throat Associates

What does Carolina Eye Ear Nose & Throat Associates do?

Carolina Eye Ear Nose & Throat Associates is a sleep medicine clinic in Columbia, SC that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.

Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Carolina Eye Ear Nose & Throat Associates?

Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Carolina Eye Ear Nose & Throat Associates directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.

How much does a sleep study cost at Carolina Eye Ear Nose & Throat Associates?

Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.

Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?

Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.

How long does it take to get sleep study results?

Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.

Can I do the sleep study at home?

Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.

What should I bring to my appointment at Carolina Eye Ear Nose & Throat Associates?

Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
