I had a sudden illness and chose to go to Rockbridge Carillion. I was quickly taken to the ED triage then to an ED room. The two ED doctors ordered tests and coordinated over shift change as additional tests were ordered. It was clear I would be meeting the surgeon soon who then explained what was going to be done the next day. After being admitted the staff fixed a meal as I was npo at midnight. The next day they brought me to surgery for the procedure. They listened to my concerns about certain pain meds that I don’t tolerate well. Post surgical care was good with typical hospital food. When I rang for assistance to get up they responded immediately…this never happens in a hospital. I checked out as soon as I ate lunch and the nurse walked me down to the front door. Oddly for me I have

I almost didn't go to the ER based on all the terrible reviews. But I was too sick to drive miles to another hospital. If I could give the staff and hospital 10 stars I would. I am a healthcare professional and all I can say is this hospital exceeded my expectations. I would not let the negative reviews deter you. Everyone has experiences and I'm not trying to minimize anyone's review; I'm just sharing what my experience was. From the moment I walked in to see the triage nurse, to the admitting representative, to the nursing staff, to the physicians, to the radiology staff and beyond. All I can do is praise each and every one of them. They were kind, caring, and professional. There was even a patient advocate that came by twice to ensure my needs were being met and I was comfortable. She k

I cannot say enough how much you should not come here. If you do have to, immediately transfer elsewhere. They told me I had an abscess and if I signed myself out to take to another hospital, I had a 4 percent chance of dying on the way. It wasn’t even an abscess, I found this out from a real hospital. And the percentage was made up, also found that out from a real hospital. They refused to release images on testing to the new hospital, it took over two hours of the new doctor trying. They also gave me no discharge paperwork. Petty and worthless. The support staff is nice, helpful, when you see them. The doctor I had, was petty as hell and he was wrong.

I spent 11 days in hospital following surgery for a perforated colon; I’m now in rehab elsewhere. I think the treatment I received could be improved. One, the food was abysmal, and I occasionally couldn’t eat it at all. Two, the facility is understaffed, resulting in long delays before my requests for help could be addressed. Three, there are many good nurses and CNAs, but there are also a few who have the “Nurse Rached” syndrome of abusing their position of power, particularly when it comes to withholding medicines. Finally, like all hospitals I suppose, it was noisy and I didn’t get much sleep.

If there was an option to give 0 stars or negative stars I would be giving those. This hospital needs to be closed down. Staff is horrible & needs retraining, need to be re educated and taught respect! Don’t take your kids here, they will rip your family apart for NOTHING. Just to be a Guinea pig to this sick system. They did 2 forensic test on my daughter over a proven UTI, kept us away from home & our family for a week, they ripped her taint completely, did an interview just to be told in the end this all was “Voluntary & not even on the books”! Like WHAT??? They wanna drug you up but send you out the door like you’re crazy & nothings wrong! I went to a different hospital after leaving here and they found out what was wrong while this one did nothing but drug me like a zombie. I would

What to expect at a sleep study appointment
For an in-lab study, you arrive in the evening and sleep in a private room while sensors record breathing, oxygen, heart rhythm and body movement. For a home sleep test, the clinic gives you a portable kit you use in your own bed. Neither test is painful. Results are usually compiled into a physician report within one to two weeks, and the clinic then discusses whether treatment — such as CPAP therapy or an oral appliance — is needed.
Preparation basics: avoid caffeine in the afternoon, skip lotions and hair products, bring comfortable sleepwear, and take your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Frequently asked questions about Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital
What does Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital do?
Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital is a sleep medicine clinic in Lexington, VA that evaluates and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Evaluation usually involves a sleep study, and treatment may include CPAP therapy, an oral appliance, or behavioral therapy depending on the diagnosis.
Do I need a referral to book a sleep study at Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital?
Many insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization before covering a sleep study. Requirements vary by insurer and by clinic, so contact Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital directly using the phone number on this page and ask what your plan needs.
How much does a sleep study cost at Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital?
Sleep study costs vary widely with the type of test, your insurance plan and your deductible. Home sleep tests generally cost less than in-lab studies. Ask the clinic for an itemized estimate and check with your insurer about in-network rates before booking.
Does insurance cover sleep studies and CPAP treatment?
Most US insurers, including Medicare, cover sleep studies and CPAP therapy when they are medically necessary and properly documented. Coverage details — deductibles, co-pays and supply replacement schedules — differ by plan, so verify with your insurer and the clinic.
How long does it take to get sleep study results?
Typically one to two weeks. A sleep physician reviews the recorded data and writes a report, after which the clinic discusses the findings and any recommended treatment with you.
Can I do the sleep study at home?
Possibly. Home sleep apnea tests suit many adults with a high likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea and no major heart or lung conditions. If your symptoms are complex or the home test is negative despite strong symptoms, an in-lab study is usually the next step. The clinic can determine which option fits you.
What should I bring to my appointment at Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital?
Comfortable sleepwear, your photo ID and insurance card, a list of current medications, and your own pillow if that helps you sleep. Avoid caffeine after midday and skip lotions or hair products, because sensors attach better to clean skin.
